Introduction to the book: From Denial of Hadith to Denial of the Quran

This excerpt is taken from the book of Fazilat-ul-Sheikh Abdul Salam Rustami From Denial of Hadith to Denial of Quran.

Allah Almighty said:
إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِنْدَ اللهِ الْإِسْلَامُ
"Indeed, Islam is the true religion in the sight of Allah."
Reference: (3 - Al Imran: 19)

And He said:
وَمَنْ يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا فَلَنْ تُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ
"And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him."
Reference: (3 - Al Imran: 85)

The accepted and beloved religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. That is why Allah Almighty has sent His beloved servants, the Prophets (peace be upon them), in every era to invite and spread it. They collectively presented two things before their respective nations. The first was فَاتَّقُوا الله "Fear Allah," and the second وَاَطِيعُونِ "and obey me." As mentioned in Surah Ash-Shu'ara regarding the stories of Nuh, Hud, Salih, Lut, and Shu'ayb (peace be upon them), and in Surah Al Imran in the narration of Isa (peace be upon him), these two points are present. فَاتَّقُوا اللہ commands calling towards Allah Almighty and the belief in Tawhid, avoidance of all kinds of disbelief and polytheism, and adopting both outward and inward piety in all actions, while وَاَطِيعُونِ makes complete obedience to the Messenger, in his qualities of prophethood and messengership, obligatory. The last link in this chain of prophethood and the final brick of prophethood was made the noble person of Muhammad (peace be upon him), and he was sent with the complete religion of Islam. Allah Almighty has organized the religion of Islam through revelation within two principles, which are repeatedly mentioned in the Holy Quran with the words اَطِيعُوا الله وَاَطِيعُوا الرَّسُول, and the tangible outline of these two is preserved in the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), known as the clear revelation and the hidden revelation, or the recited revelation and the non-recited revelation. From the Companions to the present day, the pious predecessors, the Imams of Hadith, the commentators, the Mujtahids, and the scholars of truth have worked in various ways to invite and spread the Quran and Sunnah. Through oratory, writing and compilation, words and meanings, and linguistic and customary legal explanations, they have conveyed these two things to the Ummah. Principally, there has been no disagreement between them. There is complete agreement in beliefs and the principles of religion, i.e., prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, and zakat, as well as in the principles of prohibitions. Only a few details differ, which are called minor differences, which in reality are not differences, but due to prejudice and ignorance, some have given them the color of fundamental differences, which does not affect the truthfulness and authenticity of the Quran and Hadith or the obligation of obedience.

Opposition to the Quran and Sunnah has occurred in every era. Foreign nations aside, some of our own people have also created obstacles by following the path of Satan and acting accordingly. Some tried to make literal alterations in the Quran, examples of which are found in the books of the Rafidah and the deceptions of Mirza Qadiani, but their trickery was not successful. Some tried to change the true form of Islam through interpretative distortions and allegorical explanations, among whom Mirza Qadiani and Pervaiz Ahmad, the head of the Tulu-e-Islam movement, are foremost. Their movement is based solely on interpretative distortions through which they mislead ignorant and less knowledgeable people. Similarly, most innovators (Bid'atis) such as the Mu'tazila, Jahmiyyah, Ibadiyyah, Kharijites, and other sects spreading scholarly superstitions are involved in this work. Their approach is based on interpretations. They abandon reality and unnecessarily adopt allegory and metaphor. Some of them denied the authority of Hadith to practically eliminate the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) from Islam and made their own intellect and desires the judge and arbiter for verifying the authenticity of Hadith. People of this nature recently appeared under names and affiliations such as the Naciriya sect, Chakralawiya, Sir Syed Ahmad, and Allama Mashriqi, but Pervaiz Ahmad is the foremost in the development of this movement. In the present era, this fitnah is spreading mostly among capitalists and those deprived of religious knowledge.

The Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) foretold this and said:
ألا ! إني أوتيت الكتاب ومثله معه ألا يوشك رجل شبعان على أريكته يقول: عليكم بهذا القرآن فما وجدتم فيه من حلال فأحلوه وما وجدتم فيه من حرام فحرموه وإن ما حرم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كما حرم الله
"Listen! Indeed, I have been given the Quran and something like it along with it. Listen, soon a person who eats his fill will sit on his decorated cushioned seat (sofa, etc.) and say, 'This Quran is sufficient for you, so whatever you find halal in it, consider it halal, and whatever you find haram in it, consider it haram,' while indeed whatever the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) has declared haram is just as Allah Almighty has declared it haram."

Sometimes, if a statement corresponds to the speaker's description, it becomes proof of its truth because even now the belief in denying Hadith is mostly among those who sit on chairs and sofas. A friend of mine once attended a lecture of Pervaiz Sahib in Lahore. He reported that he (Pervaiz) and all his companions were seated on chairs while women were seated in the front rows. My friend asked Pervaiz Sahib about these women through a note, and he became angry and ordered those people to be removed from there. Those who sit on mats in mosques and madrasas to acquire religious knowledge do not exhibit this behavior, praise be to Allah.

This is indeed clear evidence of the truthfulness of this Hadith and one of the miracles of our Prophet (peace be upon him). Similarly, those who do not acquire knowledge of the Quran and Hadith from an interpreter or a scholar of Hadith but rely solely on their own study mostly do not understand the meaning and purpose of Hadith and judge Hadith by their own limited intellect, thus denying Hadith. For this reason, sometimes they insult a Companion and sometimes a Muhaddith or author, while they consider it disgraceful to be counted among any sect that denies Hadith. The result of such thinking will be that due to this fitnah, people will abandon the original acts of worship such as prayer, fasting, zakat, and pilgrimage and follow the ways of the Tulu-e-Islam people, who have abandoned the methodology of all Muslims from the Companions to the present and adopted a new way. The name Tulu-e-Islam also means that the Islam presented by the Prophet (peace be upon him) and practiced by the Companions and the pious predecessors has set, and now Islam will rise with a new light, because "Tulu" means the appearance of something new. Therefore, this name (Tulu-e-Islam) is also clear evidence of their misguidance and even their disbelief. To protect from the danger of the spread of this misguidance, many scholars before me have written numerous books in the interest of Muslims refuting Pervaizism and the denial of Hadith. Some of my colleagues have long demanded that a book on this subject should be authored, but I have apologized due to lack of time and poor health. However, considering their persistent demands, I have sought Allah's help and support to compile a brief and comprehensive book on this topic. Although this issue requires detailed treatment due to the doubts and deceptions of the deniers, which necessitates a voluminous book, God willing, this book, composed in the Quranic style, will suffice for the essential aspects. With Allah is the success.
