Instructions on shaving the head, keeping the lower garment up to half the calf, letting the lower garment hang, and trimming the mustache

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, which was translated into Urdu by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnooat.

Prohibition of shaving some hair on the head and leaving some​

① Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade shaving some hair on the head and leaving some.

② Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saw a child whose some hair was shaved and some was left, so he forbade them from doing that and said:
احلقوه كله أو اتركوه كله
"Shave the entire head or leave the entire head, do not shave partially."

③ It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade me from shaving some hair on the head and leaving some.

Wearing Izar (shalwar, lower garment, etc.) up to half the calf​

① Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما narrates, I passed by the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, my lower garment was hanging down, so the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
يا عبد الله ارفع إزارك
"Abdullah! Raise your lower garment."
I raised it. Then he said:
زد
"Raise it more."
So I raised it more, and after that I used to take care of it. Someone among the people asked: How far should it be raised? He replied:
إلى أنصاف الساقين
"Up to the middle of the calves."

Prohibition of letting the lower garment hang as a sign of pride and arrogance​

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
لا ينظر الله يوم القيامة إلى من جر ثوبه خيلاء
"Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection."

② Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما states, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
من جر إزاره لا يريد بذلك إلا الخيلاء فإن الله لا ينظر إليه يوم القيامة
"Whoever drags his izar out of pride, Allah will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection."

③ It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
لا ينظر الله يوم القيامة إلى من جر إزاره بطرا
"Allah will not look at the person with mercy on the Day of Resurrection who drags his izar out of pride."

Trimming the Mustache​

​

① Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
أنهكوا الشوارب وأعفوا اللحى
"Trim the mustaches well and let the beards grow."
And in one narration, the words of أحفوا الشوارب are mentioned.
Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما used to trim beards that were more than a fistful during Hajj or Umrah.

② Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
من لم يأخذ من شاربه فليس منا
"Whoever does not trim his mustache is not one of us."
