Instructions for Salat al-Tasbih, Salat al-Hajat, Salat al-Tawbah, and combining two prayers while traveling

This excerpt is taken from Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili's Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi, which has been translated into Urdu by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnooat.

Salat al-Tasbih

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said to Sayyiduna Abbas رضي الله عنه:
“O Abbas, uncle! Should I not give you something? Should I not tell you something? Should I not present you with a gift? Should I not make you one who has ten qualities? That when you perform this act, Allah Almighty will forgive all your past and future, old and new, unintentional and intentional, small and big, hidden and apparent sins? (That is) that you pray four rak'ahs of Nafl in such a way that in each rak'ah you recite Surah Al-Fatiha and another Surah. When you finish this recitation, while still standing, recite these words fifteen times Then go into Ruku and recite these words ten times. Then rise from Ruku and recite these words ten times. Then go into Sujood and recite these words ten times. Then raise your head from Sujood and repeat these words ten times, then go into the second Sujood and repeat this Tasbih ten times. Then raise your head from Sujood and (in the sitting position) repeat this Tasbih ten times. Thus, in each rak'ah, these are recited seventy-five times. Repeat this act in all four rak'ahs. If you have the strength, pray the Salat al-Tasbih once daily. If you cannot do that, then once every Friday. If you cannot do that, then once every month. If you cannot do that, then once every year. If you cannot do it even yearly, then at least once in your lifetime.”

② In one narration it is said:
“Even if you are the greatest sinner among all the people of the earth, your sins will be forgiven.”
Reference: Abu Dawood, Kitab al-Salat 1297. Ibn Majah, Iqamat al-Salat wa al-Sunnah fiha 1387. The narration is authentic.

Rulings of Salat al-Hajat

① Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“If a person has a need from Allah or from any human being, he should perform wudu and perform it well. Then he should pray two rak'ahs, then praise Allah and send blessings and peace upon the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he should recite this supplication: There is no deity except Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. Pure is Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne. All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. I ask You for the causes of Your mercy, the means of Your forgiveness, the bounty of every good deed, and safety from every sin. Forgive all my sins, remove all my sorrows, and fulfill all my needs that please You, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy!”
Reference: Tirmidhi, Kitab al-Salat 479. Ibn Majah, Iqamat al-Salat wa al-Sunnah fiha 1384. The narration is very weak. In the chain, Fa'id Abu al-Waraqa is a narrator abandoned in hadith.

Rulings of Salat al-Tawbah

① Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه states that my condition was such that when I heard any Hadith from the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, Allah would benefit me from it as much as He willed. And when any of the companions of the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم narrated a Hadith to me, I would take an oath from him; if he swore, I would confirm it. He states that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه narrated a Hadith and he spoke the truth. He said that I heard the Messenger of Allah
"When a person commits a sin and then performs ablution properly and prays two Rak'ahs and asks Allah for forgiveness, Allah forgives him."
Reference: Abu Dawood, Book of Prayer 1521. Tirmidhi, Book of Tafsir al-Qur'an from the Messenger of Allah 406. The narration is Hasan.

Then the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم recited this verse from Surah Al-Imran:
"Those who commit indecency or wrong their own souls, then remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins—and none can forgive sins except Allah."
Reference: Al-Imran:135

Combining Two Prayers While Traveling

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم was in a hurry during travel, he would delay the Dhuhr prayer until the time of Asr and then pray them together, and he would delay Maghrib until he combined it with Isha and prayed them together.

② Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما states that when the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم was traveling, he would combine the Dhuhr and Asr prayers and combine the Maghrib and Isha prayers.
