عن ثابت قال أنس عمي الذى سميت به لم يشهد مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بدرا قال فشق عليه قال أول مشهد شهده رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم غيبت عنه وإن أراني الله مشهدا ليراني الله ما أصنع قال فهاب أن يقول غيرها قال فشهد مع رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يوم أحد قال فاستقبل سعد بن معاذ فقال له أنس يا أبا عمرو أين فقال واها لريح الجنة أجده دون أحد قال فقاتلهم حتى قتل قال فوجد فى جسده بضع وثمانون من بين ضربة وطعنة ورمية قال فقالت أخته عمتي الربيع بنت النضر فما عرفت أخي إلا ببنانه ونزلت هذه الآية رجال صدقوا ما عاهدوا الله عليه فمنهم من قضى نحبه ومنهم من ينتظر وما بدلوا تبديلا قال فكانو يرون أنها نزلت فيه وفي أصحابه
It is narrated from Thabit that Hazrat Anas رضي الله عنه said: My uncle, after whom I was named (meaning his name was also Anas), could not participate in the Battle of Badr with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. This was very difficult for him. He said: I was absent from the first battle with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, now if Allah grants me the opportunity to go with you in another battle, then Allah will see what I do (meaning what I am capable of). Then he became afraid to say more (meaning he refrained from making further claims about what he would do, fearing he might not be able to and be proven a liar). Then he went with the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم to the Battle of Uhud. Saad bin Mu'adh رضي الله عنه came before him and said: Where are you going, O Abu Amr (this was the kunya of Anas bin Nadr)? He replied: Wow! The fragrance of Paradise is coming to me from Uhud. Anas رضي الله عنه said: Then he fought the disbelievers until he was martyred. (After the battle, it was seen) that there were more than that many wounds on his body, some from swords, some from spears, and some from arrows. His sister Rabi' bint Nadr رضي الله عنها said that I could recognize my brother only by the tips of his fingers (because he could not be recognized due to the wounds all over his body). This verse was revealed: "The men who fulfilled their covenant with Allah; some of them have completed their term, and some are still waiting." The Companions رضي الله عنهم said that this verse was revealed about him and his companions.

Derived Benefits
➊ The reason for the absence of Anas bin Nadr رضي الله عنه and others in the Battle of Badr was that there was no formal announcement from the Prophet Muhammad صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم for the Battle of Badr; rather, the expedition happened suddenly, without any prior intention. Therefore, the Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said: Only those whose mounts are available should come with us.
➋ ”فهاب أن يقول غيرها“ means that Anas bin Nadr رضي الله عنه said that if Allah grants him the opportunity to participate in any future battle, then people will see the manifestations of his bravery. This was also a very important point, as Anas رضي الله عنه refrained from making any other promises or commitments to Allah, fearing that he might say something and then fail to fulfill it. Paradise has a distinct fragrance, which Anas bin Nadr رضي الله عنه perceived from the other side of Mount Uhud. A hadith states: "The fragrance of Paradise can be sensed from a distance of five hundred years."
➌ The reason for the revelation of the verse ”رجال صدقوا ما عاهدوا الله عليه فمنهم من قضى نحبه ومنهم من ينتظر وما بدلوا تبديلا“ is also known; this verse was revealed concerning Anas bin Nadr رضي الله عنه and his companions.
➍ Proof of the miracles of the saints: The mentioned hadith provides evidence of the miracles of the saints, in that Anas bin Nadr رضي الله عنه perceived the fragrance of Paradise from Mount Uhud, which is certainly one of his miracles.
