How to Purify a Utensil Licked by a Dog According to Shari‘ah

❖ Question:​


If a dog licks a spoon or any utensil, can it be purified? What is the method for purifying utensils made of clay or metal?

❖ Answer:​


✿ Purifying a Utensil Licked by a Dog:​


Islamic law prescribes the following method for purifying such a utensil:


First, rub the utensil with clean earth (soil) once.
Then wash it seven times with water.


This applies to all types of utensils, whether they are made of clay, metal, or any other material.


❖ Basis of the Ruling:​


This method is established through authentic Hadith, and there is scholarly consensus (Ijma‘) on it.


✔ Summary:​


① If a dog licks any utensil, it can be purified.
Rub once with clean soil, followed by seven washes with water.
③ This ruling applies universally to all utensils, regardless of their material.
