❀ Question

How long should the interval between Adhan and Iqamah be?

❀ Answer

In the noble Ahadith, no specific or fixed duration is mentioned regarding the interval between Adhan and Iqamah.

Hazrat Abdullah (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:

“Between every Adhan and Iqamah there is prayer.”

The Prophet (ﷺ) repeated this statement three times.

Similarly, in the Hadith of Jabir bin Samurah (RA), it is stated:

“Bilal (RA) would give the Adhan, then wait for a while, and he would not say the Iqamah until he saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) come out from the chamber. When he saw him, he would then give the Iqamah.”

From these two authentic Ahadith, it becomes clear that the interval between Adhan and Iqamah should be sufficient for the worshippers to complete their ablution and purification and be ready for the prayer.
