Question:
A narration states that Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) prayed through the means of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).(Al-Mustadrak al-Hakim, 2/215, Hadith 4228; Dala'il al-Nubuwwah al-Bayhaqi, 5/489). Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri (Barelvi) writes that: "Imam Hakim declared this Hadith to be authentic in its chain. Imam Bayhaqi also considered it authentic" (Al-Arba'in Fi Fadha'il al-Nabi al-Amin, p. 55, 4th Edition, 2002).Is it true that Imam Bayhaqi declared this narration authentic? And is this narration really authentic? (Questioner: Abu Thaqat Muhammad Safdar Hazrovi)
Answer:
It should be noted that Imam Bayhaqi did not consider this narration to be authentic at all. Rather, Imam Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy on him) wrote this narration and stated:
"It is narrated solely by Abdul Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam, and he is weak"
(Dala'il al-Nubuwwah, 5/489).
Similarly, in another book, Tahir-ul-Qadri quotes this Hadith and attributes it to Imam Bayhaqi and others, claiming that they considered it authentic (Aqeedah Tawheed aur Haqeeqat-e-Shirk, p. 266, 7th Edition, June 2005).
It becomes evident that Tahir-ul-Qadri's claim that "Imam Bayhaqi also declared it authentic" is outright false.
Note:
Hafiz Dhahabi refuted Imam Hakim in Talkhis al-Mustadrak and stated:
"In fact, it is fabricated."
This narration's chain is fabricated due to Abdul Rahman bin Zayd bin Aslam and Abdullah bin Muslim al-Fihri. For further details, see Silsilah al-Ahadith al-Da'eefah wal-Mawdoo'ah by Shaykh Al-Albani (1/38, 47, Hadith 25).
