❀ Legal Ruling on Worldly Thoughts During Salah ❀
◈ Presence of Thoughts During Prayer
Having thoughts during Salah (prayer) does not invalidate the prayer.
If a worldly thought enters the mind while performing Salah, the prayer does not become void. This is clarified by an authentic Hadith narrated from Sayyidunā ʿUqbah ibn al-Ḥārith رضي الله عنه.
✿ Hadith Evidence
Sayyidunā ʿUqbah ibn al-Ḥārith رضي الله عنه reports:
“I offered ʿAṣr prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Immediately after the prayer, he stood up and went to his noble wives. Then he returned. Seeing the expressions of astonishment on the faces of the Companions رضي الله عنهم, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
‘During the prayer, I remembered some gold that was kept in our house. I did not like to keep it even for a day or a night, so I ordered it to be distributed.’
(Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Adhān, Bāb: Man Ṣallā bi al-Nās fa Dhakara Ḥājah fa Takhaṭṭāhum, 158)
✔ Ruling Derived from the Hadith
This authentic narration proves that:
✔ If a worldly matter or even a significant remembrance occurs during Salah, it does not affect the validity of the prayer.
✔ This is provided that the external conditions and pillars (arkān) of the prayer are not disturbed.
