Does Wet Dream (Ihtilam) Affect the Fast?

Question:

I was fasting and fell asleep in the mosque. When I woke up, I realized that I had experienced a wet dream (Ihtilam). Does this affect my fast? Additionally, I did not perform Ghusl and prayed without it. Once, a stone hit my head, causing bleeding—does this invalidate my fast? Also, does vomiting break the fast? I hope for clarification.

Answer:

A wet dream (Ihtilam) does not invalidate the fast because it is something beyond a person's control. However, if seminal discharge occurs due to the wet dream, then performing Ghusl (ritual purification bath) becomes obligatory. This is based on the hadith where the Prophet ﷺ was asked about such a situation, and he stated:

"Ghusl becomes obligatory when a person sees discharge (semen)."

As for performing prayer without Ghusl, this was a grave mistake, and it is necessary for you to repeat the prayer and sincerely repent to Allah.

Regarding the bleeding from your head due to a stone, this does not invalidate your fast. Similarly, if you vomited without intention or force, your fast remains valid. This ruling is based on the hadith of the Prophet ﷺ:

من ذرعه القئ فلاقضاء عليه ومن استقاء فعليه القضاء

"Whoever vomits unintentionally, there is no expiation upon him. But whoever deliberately induces vomiting, he must make up the fast."
(Ahmad and Ahl al-Sunan narrated this with an authentic chain.)
