Sourced from: Fatāwā Amini Puri by Shaykh Ghulām Mustafa Ẓahīr Amn Puri

❀ Question

While performing wuḍūʾ, should the right hand be washed first or the left?

❀ Answer

In wuḍūʾ, it is recommended (mustaḥabb) to wash the right hand before the left.

❀ Ḥāfiẓ Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr (رحمه الله, d. 463 AH) said:

"قد أجمعوا أن الأفضل أن يغسل اليمنى قبل اليسرى وأجمعوا أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كذلك كان يتوضأ"
The scholars are unanimous that it is preferable to wash the right hand before the left, and they are also unanimous that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to perform wuḍūʾ in this manner.
(al-Tamhīd, 14/330)

He further stated:

"أجمعوا أن من غسل يسرى يديه قبل يمناه أنه لا إعادة عليه"
The scholars are unanimous that if someone washes the left hand before the right during wuḍūʾ, his wuḍūʾ is still valid and there is no need to repeat it.
(al-Tamhīd, 14/330)

ھذا ما عندي والله أعلم بالصواب
