This excerpt is taken from the book Ta'leem al-Subyan al-Tawheed by Sheikh al-Islam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab, may Allah have mercy on him
Question 1:
If you are asked: Who is your Lord?
Answer:
My Lord is Allah.
Question 2:
And what does Lord mean?
Answer:
Say: The meaning of Lord is: Owner, Worshipped One, and Helper. He alone is Allah who has the right of divinity and worship over all His creation.
Question 3:
If you are asked: How did you recognize your Lord?
Answer:
Say:
I recognized my Lord through His signs and His creations.
Among His signs are:
① Night and day
② The sun and the moon
And among His creations are:
① The heavens and the earth
② And whatever is within them.
③ Evidence (from the Quran) Allah Almighty says:
Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six days, then He rose over the Throne. He covers the night with the day, which swiftly follows it, and created the sun, the moon, and the stars, all subjected by His command. Listen! Creation and command belong to Him alone. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.
Reference: Al-A'raf:54
Question 4:
If you are asked: For what purpose were you created?
Answer:
Say:
I was created to worship Him, He is One, He has no partner,
and I obey Him in such a way that I carry out whatever He commands,
and refrain from whatever He forbids,
As Allah Almighty has said:
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
Reference: Adh-Dhariyat:56
And as Allah Almighty has said:
Indeed, the reality is that whoever associates partners with Allah, then surely Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and his abode is the Fire.
Reference: Al-Ma'idah:72
And Shirk (Associating partners):
And Shirk is: that a person assigns a partner to Allah, calls upon him, hopes from him, fears him, trusts him, or turns towards someone other than Allah, and similarly in other forms of worship, associates someone as a partner with Allah.
So worship is:
Worship is: a comprehensive term that includes every matter and action that Allah Almighty likes and is pleased with, whether it is speech or action, and whether it is apparent or inward (an act of the heart).
And among the types of worship is supplication (dua).
And Allah Almighty said:
And that the mosques are for Allah, so do not call upon anyone along with Allah.
Reference: Al-Jinn:18
And the proof that calling upon anyone other than Allah is disbelief, as Allah Almighty said:
And whoever calls upon besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof, then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
Reference: Al-Mu’minun:117
And this is because supplication is one of the greatest forms of worship,
As your Lord has said:
And your Lord has said, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you. Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell humiliated."
Reference: Ghafir:60
And it is in ((Sunan)), narrated mursal from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him):
Supplication is the essence (core and extract) of worship.
Reference: Sunan Tirmidhi:3371
And the very first thing Allah made obligatory upon His servants is to deny the Taghut and believe in Allah, as Allah Almighty said:
And indeed We sent a messenger to every nation, [saying], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghut."
Reference: An-Nahl:36
Wal-Taghut: And Taghut is this:
Anything that is worshipped other than Allah, or Satan, or a soothsayer (one who claims to know the unseen), or an astrologer, or a person who judges against the command revealed by Allah, and anyone who is followed and obeyed unjustly.
Allama Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) says:
Taghut is that through which a servant exceeds his limits, whether it is a deity, or one who is followed, or one who is obeyed.
Question No. 5:
If you are asked: What is your religion?
Answer:
Say: My religion is Islam.
And the meaning of Islam is:
① To submit to Allah with monotheism
② To become obedient to Him by obeying Him
③ To love the Muslims
④ And to disassociate from the polytheists
As Allah Almighty has said:
Indeed, the religion with Allah is Islam, and those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them, out of mutual envy. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account.
Reference: Al-Imran:19
And as Allah Almighty has said:
And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted of him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers.
Reference: Al-Imran:85
And it is authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ that he said:
You bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger, establish prayer, give zakah, fast during Ramadan, and if you are able to find a way to the House of Allah, then perform Hajj.
Reference: Sahih Muslim:93 [8]
And the meaning of "La ilaha illallah" is: There is no true deity except Allah,
As Allah Almighty has said:
[And when Abraham said to his father and his people, "Indeed, I am disassociated from that which you worship,] except He who created me; so indeed, He will guide me." [And he made it a lasting word among his descendants that they might return.]
Reference: Az-Zukhruf: 26 to 28
And the proof for prayer and zakat is the statement of Allah Almighty:
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, being sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and give zakat. And that is the correct religion.
Reference: Al-Bayyina:5
So in this verse, first of all, the mention of monotheism and disassociation from polytheism is made,
because:
The greatest command is monotheism, and the greatest prohibition is polytheism
Then after that:
- The command to establish prayer and the command to give zakat is given, and this is the major part of the religion, and all the commands that come after are subordinate to it.
And the proof for the obligation of fasting is the statement of Allah Almighty:
[O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous], [for a limited number of days. Then whoever among you is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of days [are to be made up]. And upon those who are able [to fast, but with hardship] - a ransom [as substitute] of feeding a poor person. And whoever volunteers excess - it is better for him. And that you fast is best for you, if you only knew], [The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it].
Reference: Al-Baqarah:183-185
And the proof for the obligation of Hajj is the statement of Allah Almighty:
And Hajj to the House is a duty that mankind owes to Allah, those who can afford the journey.
Reference: Aal Imran:97
And the foundations of faith are six:
It is that you believe: in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and destiny, its good and its bad (included).
And its proof is the hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, in (Sahih).
Reference: Sahih Muslim:93 [8]
Question No. 6:
If you are asked: Who are your prophets?
Say: Our Prophet is Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abdul Muttalib bin Hashim bin Abd Manaf.
Allah Almighty chose him from among the Quraysh, and Quraysh are the best people among the descendants of Ismail, peace be upon him. Allah Almighty sent you ﷺ as a messenger to all mankind (white and black), and revealed the Book (Quran) and wisdom upon you ﷺ, so that you may invite people to:
Worship purely for Allah alone, and abandon all those things which they used to worship besides Allah, such as: idols, stones, trees, prophets, righteous people, angels, (and all other false deities).
So you ﷺ invited people to abandon shirk,
And they fought against them to abandon it, and to worship Allah sincerely,
As Allah Almighty has said:
Say, I only call upon my Lord and do not associate anyone with Him.
Reference: Al-Jinn:20
And Allah Almighty's command is:
Say, I worship Allah alone, sincerely dedicating my religion to Him.
Reference: Az-Zumar:14
And Allah Almighty's command is:
Say, I have been commanded only to worship Allah and not associate anyone with Him. I invite to Him, and to Him is my return.
Reference: Ar-Ra'd:36
And Allah Almighty's command is:
[Say, then do you order me to worship others besides Allah, O ignorant one?] [And indeed, your Lord has revealed to you and to those before you that if you associate partners with Allah, your deeds will surely be lost, and you will surely be among the losers], [but worship Allah alone and be among the grateful.]
Reference: Az-Zumar:64 to 66
And among the principles of faith that save from disbelief is also this::
To believe in resurrection (revival), to believe in being raised (dissemination), to believe in recompense (reward and punishment), to believe in accountability, to believe in the reality of Paradise, and to believe in the reality of Hell.
Allah Almighty says: [
It is from Him that We created you, and into Him We will return you, and from Him We will bring you out once again.
Reference: Taha:55
And if you are amazed, then their saying is strange: "When we have become dust, will we indeed be brought into a new creation?" Those are the ones who have denied their Lord, and those will have shackles around their necks, and they are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.
Reference: Ar-Ra'd:5
And in this verse is the proof that whoever denies resurrection (being brought back to life),
commits such disbelief that causes him to enter Hell forever.
May Allah protect us from disbelief and the deeds of disbelief.
So these verses state that the Prophet ﷺ was sent with the message that: worship should be done purely for Allah, and worship of anyone other than Allah should be prohibited, and worship should be dedicated solely to Allah, and this is the religion of the Prophet ﷺ to which he invited people, and for which he fought with them, as Allah Almighty has said:
And fight them until there is no more fitnah and the religion is all for Allah alone,
Reference: Al-Anfal:39
.Allah Almighty sent you ﷺ at the age of forty, then you invited people to sincerity (Tawheed) for about ten years and commanded them to abandon the worship of everyone except Allah. After that, you ﷺ were taken to the heavens (Mi'raj), and Allah Almighty made the five daily prayers obligatory upon you, and there was no intermediary between you and Allah in this. Then after that, you ﷺ were commanded to migrate, so you migrated towards Medina, and you were commanded to engage in Jihad, so you fought in the way of Allah with truth for about ten years, until people began to enter the religion of Allah in crowds. Then when you reached the age of sixty-three (63), (Alhamdulillah) the religion was completed, and Allah Almighty informed you of your death. (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)
And the first Messenger is Prophet Noah (peace be upon him), and the last Messenger is Muhammad ﷺ,
As Allah Almighty has said :
Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book as We sent down to Noah and the prophets after him.
Reference: An-Nisa:163
And Allah Almighty says: [
And Muhammad is not but a messenger...
Reference: Al-Imran:144
And Allah Almighty says: [
Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. And ever is Allah, of all things, Knowing.
Reference: Al-Ahzab:40
And the best of the messengers is our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and after the prophets, the best of people are: Abu Bakr Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, Uthman ibn Affan, may Allah be pleased with him, Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, and may Allah be pleased with all of them.
And the best era is my era, then those who come after them, then those who come after them. And our master Jesus, peace be upon him, will descend from the sky and kill the Dajjal.
