Considering sins as trivial, the fame of deeds, greed, and prohibition of hypocrisy

This excerpt is taken from the Arabic book Al-Awamer wal-Nawahi by Sheikh Hussain bin Mubarak Al-Mawsili, whose Urdu translation has been done by Muhammad Sarwar Gohar Sahib under the title Ahkamat o Mamnooat.

Prohibition of Considering Sins as Minor

① Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "You commit deeds which in your eyes are even finer than a hair, while in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) we used to count them among the deadly sins."
Reference: Bukhari, Kitab al-Riqaq 6492, Musnad Ahmad Bawqi Musnad al-Mukashirin 3/193, Hadith 12610.

Prohibition of Publicizing One’s Deeds

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jundub bin Abdullah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
من سمع سمع الله به ، ومن يرائي يرائي الله به
"Whoever does a good deed to be heard of, Allah will make everyone hear about his ill intention. And whoever does it for show, Allah will expose his show-off."
Reference: Muslim, Kitab al-Zuhd wal-Raqa'iq 2987/48, Bukhari, Kitab al-Riqaq 6499.

② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما that the Noble Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
من سمع سمع الله به ، ومن راءى راءى الله به
"Whoever does a good deed to be heard of, Allah will make everyone hear about his ill intention. And whoever does it for show, Allah will expose his show-off."
Reference: Muslim, Kitab al-Zuhd wal-Raqa'iq 2986/47.

Prohibition of Greed

① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
يهرم ابن آدم ويكبر معه اثنتان : الحرص على المال ، والحرص على العمر
"The son of Adam grows old, and two things increase with him: greed for wealth and desire for a long life."
Reference: Bukhari, Kitab al-Riqaq 6421. The wording is: When the son of Adam grows old, two things increase with him: love of wealth and love of a long life. Muslim, Kitab al-Zakat 1047/115. The wording is from Sahih Muslim.

② Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik رضي الله عنه reports that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
ما ذئبان جائعان أرسلا فى غنم بأفسد لها من حرص المرء على المال والشرف لدينه
"Two hungry wolves, if left among sheep, do not cause as much harm as a person's greed for wealth harms the honor of his religion."
Reference: Tirmidhi, Al-Zuhd 2376.

Prohibition of Showing Off (Riya)

① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
"On the Day of Resurrection, the first to be judged will be the martyr. He will be presented, and his blessings will be reminded to him. He will recognize them and acknowledge them. Then Allah Almighty will ask him, 'What did you do with these?' He will say, 'I fought for Your sake until I was martyred.' He will say, 'You lie. You fought so that you would be called brave and courageous, and you have been called so.' Then a command will be given regarding him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell. The second person will be the one who learned knowledge and taught it and recited the Qur'an. He will also be presented, and his blessings will be reminded to him. He will acknowledge them. Then He will ask, 'What did you do with these?' He will say, 'I learned knowledge and taught it, and I recited the Qur'an for Your sake.' He will say, 'You lie. Rather, you acquired knowledge so that you would be called a scholar, and you recited the Qur'an so that you would be called a reciter, and you have been called so.' Then the same will be said about him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell. Then the third person will be the one whom Allah has given wealth and various kinds of property. He will also be presented, and his blessings will be reminded to him. He will acknowledge them. Then He will ask, 'What did you do with these?' He will say, 'I did not leave any place where spending would please You, and I did not spend there.' He will say, 'You lie. Rather, you did all this so that you would be called generous, and you have been called so.' Then the same will be said about him, and he will also be dragged face down and thrown into Hell."

② Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
تعوذوا بالله من جب الحزن
"When you seek refuge from al-Huzn (grief), seek refuge with Allah."
The Companions رضي الله عنهم asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is al-Huzn?
"There is a valley in Hell from which Hell seeks refuge a hundred times every day."
