Are the heavens spherical in shape?
❀ Answer:
Yes, the heavens are spherical. The scholars have transmitted consensus (ijma‘) on this matter.
❀ Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله (d. 728H) said:
السموات مستديرة عند علماء المسلمين وقد حكى إجماع المسلمين على ذلك غير واحد من العلماء أئمة الإسلام … ولا أعلم فى علماء المسلمين المعروفين من أنكر ذلك
“The heavens are spherical according to the scholars of the Muslims, and more than one of the scholars and Imams of Islam have reported the consensus of the Muslims on this. I do not know of any among the well-known scholars of the Muslims who has denied this.”
