This is the method by which the fard (obligatory) aspect of ghusl is fulfilled, ensuring ritual purification from janabah. It includes:
Whoever performs these steps and pours water over the whole body will be purified from janabah, in accordance with Allah’s command:
﴿وَإِن كُنتُم جُنُبًا فَاطَّهَّروا﴾
"And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves."
[Al-Ma’idah: 6]
This is the perfect and Sunnah method, as practiced by the Prophet ﷺ:
This method combines the obligatory requirements with the Sunnah perfection of ghusl.

Two Methods of Ghusl
1. Ṣifat Wājibah (The Obligatory Method)
This is the method by which the fard (obligatory) aspect of ghusl is fulfilled, ensuring ritual purification from janabah. It includes:
- Pouring water over the entire body so that no part remains dry.
- Rinsing the mouth (placing water inside and cleaning it).
- Putting water into the nose and cleaning it.
Whoever performs these steps and pours water over the whole body will be purified from janabah, in accordance with Allah’s command:
﴿وَإِن كُنتُم جُنُبًا فَاطَّهَّروا﴾
"And if you are in a state of janabah, then purify yourselves."
[Al-Ma’idah: 6]
2. Ṣifat Kāmilah (The Complete Method)
This is the perfect and Sunnah method, as practiced by the Prophet ﷺ:
- Intend to perform ghusl for purification from janabah.
- Wash both hands first.
- Wash the private parts and remove any impurity.
- Perform a complete wudu as described for prayer.
- Pour water over the head three times, ensuring it reaches the roots of the hair.
- Pour water over the entire body, starting from the right side, then the left, ensuring full coverage.
This method combines the obligatory requirements with the Sunnah perfection of ghusl.
