❖ Question
What is the ruling on combining prayers at ʿArafah and Muzdalifah?
❖ Answer
At ʿArafah, it is established through authentic ahadith to combine Dhuhr and ʿAsr, and at Muzdalifah, to combine Maghrib and ʿIsha. There is also consensus (ijma‘) of Ahl al-Sunnah and Ahl al-Haqq upon this.
❀ ʿAllamah Ibn Abi al-ʿIzz al-Hanafi (رحمه الله, 792H) said:
الجمع بعرفة والمزدلفة متفق عليه، وهو منقول بالتواتر فلم يتنازعوا فيه.
“Combining prayers at ʿArafah and Muzdalifah is unanimously agreed upon. It has been transmitted through tawatur, and there is no dispute among Ahl al-Haqq regarding it.”
(Al-Tanbih ʿala Mushkilat al-Hidayah, 3/1029)
❀ ʿAllamah ʿAbdullah ibn Mahmoud al-Mawsili al-Hanafi (رحمه الله, 683H) said:
قد تواتر النقل عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بالجمع بينهما.
“It has been transmitted through tawatur from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that he combined them (Dhuhr and ʿAsr at ʿArafah).”
(Al-Ikhtiyar li-Taʿlil al-Mukhtar, 1/149)
