Combining ʿAqīqah with Walīmah: Permissibility and Etiquette

❖ Combining ʿAqīqah and Walīmah Invitations: Sharʿī Ruling ❖
❓ Question:

Is it permissible to combine the ʿAqīqah invitation with the Walīmah? For example, if five goats are slaughtered, can two be for ʿAqīqah and three for Walīmah? What is the Sharʿī stance?

📝 Answer by: Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakīl Nāṣir (حفظه الله)

✅ Ruling: Permissible with Conditions

✔ If the seventh day (the Sunnah day for ʿAqīqah) coincides with the scheduled Walīmah, then it is permissible to combine both occasions.

✔ For a boy, two goats should be slaughtered for ʿAqīqah. These may be included in the overall food served in the Walīmah invitation.

✔ After performing the ʿAqīqah:

  • You may distribute its meat,
  • Host a meal or invitation,
  • Eat from it yourself, and
  • Serve it to others — including as part of a Walīmah feast.

📌 Note on Informing Guests

It is not obligatory to inform guests that the feast includes both Walīmah and ʿAqīqah.
However, for good cheer and transparency, mentioning it is allowed and preferred — especially if it brings joy or clarity to the occasion.

✅ Conclusion

✔ It is Sharʿīly permissible to combine ʿAqīqah with Walīmah, especially if they coincide naturally.
✔ The meat from ʿAqīqah can be served as part of the Walīmah meal.
Informing guests is optional, but there is no harm in doing so.
