Excerpt from the book "Wālidayn aur Aulād ke Ḥuqūq" by Shaykh Jāwēd Iqbāl Sīālkōṭī

❖ Topic:

Circumcision (Khatnah) Is Part of Natural Disposition (Fiṭrah)

✿ Hadith:

Translation:

Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنه reported: I heard the Prophet ﷺ say:
“Five practices are part of natural disposition (Fiṭrah):
① Circumcision (Khatnah)
② Removing pubic hair
③ Trimming the moustache
④ Cutting the nails
⑤ Plucking the armpit hair.”_
(Saḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 5891)

✅ Key Point:

Circumcision (Khatnah) is a Sunnah practice rooted in human nature (Fiṭrah) and emphasized by the Prophet ﷺ.
✔ The command implies obligation, especially for males, as part of Islamic hygiene and purity.

❖ Note on Timing:

Although some narrations mention performing circumcision on the seventh day,
those ahadith are weak (ḍaʿīf) and therefore not relied upon for setting a fixed time.

❖ Practical Guidance:

  • Circumcision is a physical Sunnah that should be fulfilled during childhood.
  • It is part of maintaining personal cleanliness and fitrah, alongside trimming, shaving, and cutting.
