Fatwa by: Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al-Uthaymeen (Hafizahullah)
Question:
Some women, may Allah guide them, dress their young daughters in such short (and revealing) clothing that it leaves their legs uncovered. When we advise such mothers, they respond by saying, "When we were young, we used to wear such clothing, and it didn't affect us negatively when we grew up." What is your opinion regarding this?
Answer:
My opinion is that it is inappropriate for anyone to dress their young daughters in such clothing. If a child becomes accustomed to wearing such revealing clothes in childhood, it is likely that she will continue to do so when she grows older. I advise my Muslim sisters to abandon the clothing of the enemies of Islam and to raise their daughters with modest clothing and a sense of shyness and decency. This is because modesty is an integral part of faith.
