Analysis of the Chain of Hadith: “Al-‘Ulama Warathat al-Anbiya”

Question:
What is the status of the Hadith “al-‘ulama warathat al-anbiya” with regard to its chain of narration?
Answer:
This narration is found in Sunan Abi Dawud (3641) and Sunan al-Tirmidhi (2681). Its chain is weak due to Kathir ibn Qays, and its other chains are also weak.
❀ Imam al-Daraqutni رحمه الله has declared this Hadith weak.
(‘Ilal al-Daraqutni: 6/216)
Thus, this narration is weak from the perspective of its chain. However, its meaning and concept are correct.
❀ Allah Almighty says:
﴿ثُمَّ أَوْرَثْنَا الْكِتَابَ الَّذِينَ اصْطَفَيْنَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا﴾
(Fatir: 32)
“Then We made those whom We chose from among Our servants inherit the Book.”
