Celebrate the Birth of Daughters with Gratitude: A Sign of Allah’s Mercy

The Birth of a Daughter Should Be Welcomed with Joy and Gratitude
✍️ Written by: ʿImrān Ayyūb Lāhorī

❖ Rejoicing at the Birth of Daughters is Part of Faith

In Islam, the birth of a daughter is not something to be viewed with displeasure or shame. Instead, it should be received with joy and gratitude, for it is a divine gift from Allah ﷻ. Discontentment with this blessing reflects ingratitude and is contrary to the teachings of Islam.

❖ The Qur’ānic Command and Perspective:

"To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates whatever He wills. He grants to whom He wills daughters, and He grants to whom He wills sons. Or He bestows both males and females, and He makes whom He wills barren. Indeed, He is All-Knowing, All-Powerful."
📖 [Sūrah al-Shūrā: 49–50]

✿ Key Lessons from the Verse:

Allah Alone is the Creator and Giver – He chooses what is best for each servant.
Daughters are a gift (يَهَبُ) – just as sons are.
No one earns or deserves a child based on merit – it is pure divine will.
Rejecting or showing displeasure at the birth of a daughter is a rejection of Allah’s will.

✅ Conclusion:

✔ A believer should be thankful whether blessed with a daughter or a son.
✔ The birth of a daughter should be met with happiness, duʿāʾ, and gratitude, not sorrow.
Daughters are a sign of Allah’s mercy, and those who raise them well are promised Paradise in many authentic aḥādīth.
