Causes of Childlessness and Protective Practices Against Magic

Source: Fatāwā ʿUlamāʾ-e-Ḥadīth, Kitāb al-Ṣalāh, Volume 1
Question:
It has been four years since my marriage but we have not had any children. During intimacy, I often feel sleepy or fatigued, and the act cannot be completed. As a result, I’ve also lost the desire for intercourse. Medically, both my wife and I are healthy, but one pregnancy ended in miscarriage during the second month. Could this be due to the effect of magic? Please suggest any duʿāʾ or remedy for protection.

❖ Children Are a Gift from Allah

Children are a precious gift from Allah, granted to whom He wills and in whatever measure He wills. The following points address your situation:

✿ Duʿās for Righteous Offspring

Make frequent use of Qur'anic and prophetic duʿās, including:

﴿رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ﴾

"My Lord, grant me [offspring] from among the righteous."
(Surah al-Ṣāffāt: 100)

❖ If Magic Is Suspected

If there is concern about magic, take the following steps:

Consult a qualified scholar and request ruqyah (spiritual healing) in accordance with Sharīʿah.
Recite Surah al-Baqarah regularly in your home.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Shayṭān flees from the house in which Surah al-Baqarah is recited."

✿ Daily Protective Supplications (Adhkār)

These regular adhkār (remembrances) are effective for protection from magic and to attain physical and mental peace:

  • Recite after every obligatory prayer.
  • Recite before going to bed at night.

Translation:
"Allah! There is no deity but He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all. Neither slumber overtakes Him nor sleep…"

Recite after every obligatory prayer and three times after Fajr and Maghrib:

  • Surah al-Ikhlāṣ: “Qul huwa Allāhu aḥad…”
  • Surah al-Falaq: “Qul aʿūdhu bi-Rabbi’l-falaq…”
  • Surah al-Nās: “Qul aʿūdhu bi-Rabbi’n-nās…”

Recite before sleeping:

"The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him…"

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever recites these two verses at night, they will suffice him against every harm."

When entering a new place, say:

"Aʿūdhu bikalimātillāhi’t-tāmmāti min sharri mā khalaq."
(I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.)

The Prophet ﷺ said:

"Whoever says this, no harm will affect him."

Recite three times morning and evening:

"Bismillāhi alladhī lā yaḍurru maʿa ismihi shay’un fi’l-arḍi wa-lā fi’l-samā’ wa huwa al-samīʿ al-ʿalīm."
(In the name of Allah, with whose name nothing in the heavens or earth can harm. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.)

❖ Prophetic Supplications for Healing (Ruqyah)

For protection from magic or physical/psychological distress, use authentic ruqyah from the Sunnah:

✔ Duʿāʾ for Health:

"Allāhumma Rabba al-nās, adhhib al-ba’sa, ishfi anta al-shāfī, lā shifā’a illā shifā’uk, shifā’an lā yughādir saqaman."
(O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the hardship and heal [me], You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing—a healing that leaves behind no illness.)

✔ Jibrīl’s Ruqyah:

"Bismillāhi urqīka, min kulli shay’in yu’dhīka, wa min sharri kulli nafsin aw ʿaynin ḥāsid, Allāhu yashfīka, bismillāhi urqīka."
(In the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah on you—from everything that harms you, and from the evil of every soul or envious eye. May Allah heal you; in the name of Allah, I perform ruqyah on you.)

❖ Trust in Allah and Consistent Duʿāʾ

Remain steadfast in your supplications and protective practices, and earnestly beseech Allah. His mercy is vast, and He is the One who provides relief, healing, and offspring.
