❀ Ruling on Offering Tahiyyat al-Masjid After Praying Fajr Sunnahs at Home ❀
If someone has already prayed the Sunnah (non-obligatory) prayers of Fajr at home and then enters the mosque, is he allowed to pray Tahiyyat al-Masjid?
Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakeel Nāṣir (ḥafiẓahullāh)
Yes, a person who has performed the Sunnah of Fajr at home may offer Tahiyyat al-Masjid upon entering the mosque.
This is because Tahiyyat al-Masjid is a prayer based on a specific cause (ṣalāh sababiyyah) — that is, it is legislated due to entering the masjid — and the scholars have permitted it even during times when voluntary prayers are generally restricted (such as after Fajr), as long as there is a valid reason or cause behind the prayer.
✔ Tahiyyat al-Masjid is permissible even after one has prayed Fajr Sunnahs at home.
✔ It is a ṣalāh sababiyyah — a prayer with a specific cause (entering the masjid).
✔ Scholars allow offering it in such a case, as it honors the sanctity of the masjid.
