❖ Question

Since the Qur’an has named us “Muslimeen”, is it permissible for us to call ourselves “Ahl-e-Hadith”?

As Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:

﴿هُوَ سَمّٰكُمُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ﴾
“He has named you Muslims.”
[Al-Ḥajj: 78]

❖ Answer

All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:

If the Qur’an has named us “Muslimeen”, then the same question arises:

Can we name ourselves Jamaat al-Muslimeen?

The answer to that question is also the answer to your original question.

In other words, if it is permissible to call a group “Jamaat al-Muslimeen” for the purpose of recognition,
then likewise, using the term “Ahl-e-Hadith” is not to replace the Qur’anic term Muslim,
but rather serves as a descriptive identifier.
