What are the scholarly views on jinn entering the human body?
Answer:
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضی اللہ عنہ that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
『إن المؤمن لينضي شيطانه كما ينضي أحدكم بعيره فى السفر』
“Indeed, a believer exhausts his Shaytan just as one of you exhausts his camel on a journey.”
[Musnad Ahmad; Majmaʿ az-Zawa'id 1/114]
Rational Arguments for the Entry of Jinn into the Human Body:
➊ Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمہ اللہ said:
“The existence of jinn is established through the Qur'an, Sunnah, and the consensus of the early generations of the Ummah. Likewise, the entry of jinn into the human body is agreed upon by the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah, and this is something observable and can be felt by anyone who contemplates it. The jinn enters the afflicted person and speaks in an unfamiliar language, and the possessed person does not understand it; indeed, if he is struck, he does not even feel it.”
[Risalah al-Jinn, p. 8]
➋ Qadi ʿAbd al-Jabbar Hamdani رحمہ اللہ said:
“Their bodies are as soft as air, and there is nothing to prevent them from entering our bodies, just as air (breath) enters our bodies. This does not require that different essences unite in one substance. Likewise, jinn only gather by way of adjacency, not by complete merging. They enter our bodies just as a soft body enters a vessel.”
[Ahkam al-Murjan, p. 108]
➌ ʿAbdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal رحمہ اللہ said:
“I said to my father: Some people claim that jinn cannot enter the human body. The Imam said: These people are liars; indeed, the jinn speaks with the tongue of the possessed person.”
