⎯ Referenced from: Fatāwā al-Dīn al-Khāliṣ, Vol. 1, p. 122 ⎯
Can a jinn enter the human body? If so, who can be affected, and how can it be treated?
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allāh. To proceed:
Yes, the entry of jinn into the human body is an established reality proven through the Qur’an, Sunnah, and sound reasoning.
This issue has been discussed in detail under Issue No. 24 in the same fatwa compilation.
A jinn may enter a human body for the following reasons:
➤ If a person harms a jinn, e.g., by damaging its dwelling place
➤ If someone injures the offspring of a jinn unknowingly
➤ If a jinn falls in love with a particular person
Treatment should be done using Qur’ān and authentic Sunnah-based ruqyah (spiritual healing):
✔ Recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, and al-Mu‘awwidhatayn (Sūrat al-Falaq and Sūrat al-Nās)
✔ Use authentic supplications (ad‘iyah mā’thūrah) taught by the Prophet ﷺ
✔ Before sleeping, blow on the hands, recite the above sūrahs, and wipe over the entire body, as was the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ
If self-treatment is not effective, consult a healer who:
✔ Practices ruqyah strictly in accordance with the Qur’an and Hadith
✔ Avoids all forms of shirk (polytheism) and innovative methods
According to the Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Fatwas (al-Lajnah al-Dā’imah):
✔ The influence or "touch" of jinn upon humans is real
✔ It can be treated with Qur’anic verses and Sunnah-based supplications
✔ Using magic to prevent marital intimacy on the wedding night is a form of ḥarām (forbidden) black magic (siḥr)
Sometimes, a jinn overpowers a person and:
✘ Instructs him to abandon prayer
✘ Orders him to go to churches or inappropriate places
✘ Forces him to engage in physically exhausting tasks
In such cases, the affected person must:
✔ Remain firm on Sharī‘ah
✔ Seek refuge in Allāh through du‘ā and recitation of Sūrat al-Falaq and Sūrat al-Nās
✔ Perform ruqyah using Sūrat al-Fātiḥah, Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, and al-Mu‘awwidhatayn
✔ Engage regularly in adhkār and protective Qur’anic recitations
The following classical works discuss these topics in detail:
Al-Kalim al-Ṭayyib by Imām Ibn Taymiyyah (raḥimahullāh)
Al-Wābil al-Ṣayyib by Imām Ibn al-Qayyim (raḥimahullāh)
Al-Adhkār by Imām Nawawī (raḥimahullāh)
✦ Jinn entering the human body is an established reality
✦ This may occur due to harm, love, or other reasons
✦ Treatment is available through Qur’an, du‘ā, and Sharī‘ah-compliant ruqyah
✦ Protection from siḥr and jinn requires regular adhkār and Qur’anic recitation
