❀ Is It Permissible for a Widow to Spend Her ‘Iddah in Her Parents’ Home? ❀

❖ Question:
If a woman’s husband passes away, can she observe her ‘iddah in her parents’ home, while a hadith states that the Prophet ﷺ commanded that in all cases a woman should complete her ‘iddah in her husband’s home?
❖ Answer:
Alhamdulillah, was-salatu was-salamu ‘ala Rasulillah, amma ba‘d!
If a woman’s ‘iddah is due to the death of her husband, then she should ideally observe the entire ‘iddah period in her husband’s home.
However, if there is a Shar‘i necessity or an unavoidable situation that makes it impossible for her to remain there, then according to the circumstances she may complete her ‘iddah in her own residence or another suitable place.
