❖ Is ʿAqīqah Permissible Using a Share in a Qurbani Cow?
Source: Fatāwā Muḥammadiyyah, Volume 1, Page 665
❖ Question:
If one share of a cow is taken as Qurbani, can the remaining shares be intended and used for ʿAqīqah?
❖ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh. Ammā baʿd:
This practice is not valid according to Sharīʿah.
The reason is that the Hadiths concerning ʿAqīqah clearly mention that:
For a boy, two animals are to be sacrificed,
and for a girl, one animal is to be sacrificed.
✿ This is detailed in multiple narrations found in the four Sunan (Sunan Arbaʿah).
❖ Why a Cow Share Is Not Valid for ʿAqīqah
◈ Although a cow can be shared by seven people for Qurbani, it still remains one single animal.
◈ Therefore, it is not permissible to assign a single share from a cow for ʿAqīqah purposes, as this does not fulfill the requirement set in the Sunnah.
❖ No Evidence for Joint ʿAqīqah
Even among scholars who permit such a practice, there is no clear, authentic evidence to support the validity of sharing a sacrificial animal for ʿAqīqah.
