Can a Diabetic Woman Wear a Diaper During ʿUmrah?

❀ Ruling on Wearing a Diaper During ʿUmrah for a Diabetic Woman ❀

Question:

Can a diabetic woman, who frequently needs to urinate due to her condition, wear a diaper (pamper) while performing ʿUmrah?

❖ Answer by:

Shaykh ʿAbd al-Wakeel Nāṣir (ḥafiẓahullāh)

Yes
, such a woman is allowed to wear a diaper during ʿUmrah. This falls under the category of necessity (ʿudhr), and Islamic rulings accommodate such situations with leniency.

Additionally, she may also wear an undergarment, and there is no harm in doing so. This allowance helps preserve cleanliness and dignity, especially during acts of worship involving movement and extended time outside.

Summary:

✔ Wearing a diaper or protective undergarment is permissible for a woman with a medical condition such as diabetes that causes frequent urination.
✔ The ruling is based on necessity, for which the Sharīʿah allows exceptions and relaxation in certain matters.
✔ She may also use supportive clothing underneath the ihrām without issue.
