Belief in Finality of Prophethood: No Prophet After Muhammad ﷺ

❖ The Meaning of Finality of Prophethood

The belief in the finality of prophethood is that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the last prophet sent by Allah. From Prophet Adam عليه السلام to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, messengers were sent to guide various nations and communities. However, this divine system of sending prophets concluded with the advent of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. No prophet will come after him until the Day of Judgment. This includes any form of prophet, whether claimed as a shadow (ظلی) or symbolic (بروزی) prophet. Denying this belief constitutes disbelief in Islam.

❖ Universality of the Prophethood of Muhammad ﷺ

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was not sent to a specific tribe or community. Rather, he was appointed as a messenger for all of humanity—across all races, regions, and eras. His message is comprehensive and sufficient for every time and place until the end of the world.

❖ Prophetic Hadiths Affirming Finality

The Prophet ﷺ clearly stated that previous prophets were sent only to their respective nations, while he was sent to all people. He also declared directly that there would be no prophet after him. These words leave no room for doubt or reinterpretation.

Moreover, he made it clear that anyone who hears of him and does not believe in his message, regardless of their previous faith or scripture, will face the consequences in the Hereafter.

❖ Scholarly Consensus

Islamic scholars across the ages have been unanimous that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the final prophet. They affirmed that his message completes and supersedes all previous messages. This belief has always been a fundamental tenet of Islamic creed.

Scholars clarified that the return of Prophet ʿĪsā (Jesus) عليه السلام near the end of times is not a new prophethood. Rather, he will descend as a follower of the Shariah of Muhammad ﷺ, not to bring a new law or message.

❖ Rejection of False Prophethood

Any claim of prophethood after Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is false and deceitful. The claimant is considered an imposter, and belief in such a claim is a clear departure from Islam.
