❀ Question

Women are permitted to beautify themselves for their husbands — but what exactly does “beautification” (singehaar) mean in Islamic terms?

Can women use nail polish, powder, perfume, blush, lotion, cream, etc.?

Furthermore, many parents apply nail polish, blush, powder, and cream on their children.
Some argue that "they are just kids," while others object.
What is the correct Shar‘i ruling on this matter?

✔ Response

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام علىٰ رسول الله، أما بعد:

◈ Any product that prevents water from reaching the skin and thus invalidates wudu or ghusl — such as nail polishis not permissible to use in a state where purification is required.

◈ Items that act as a barrier during wudu or ghusl must be avoided when one is obligated to perform these acts of purification.

◈ As for male children, it is necessary to avoid applying scented or colored products — particularly those associated with feminine beautification — as this resembles imitation of women, which is impermissible even from a young age.
