❖ Problematic Phrases in Modern Naʿat
In contemporary times, certain Naʿat verses are recited with the intent of expressing love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. However, they sometimes contradict the core belief of Tawḥīd.
For example:
"تیرا کھاواں میں تیرے گیت گاواں یا رسول اللہ"
(“I eat from you and sing your praises, O Messenger of Allah”)
This phrase implies that the Prophet ﷺ is the provider of sustenance, whereas the foundation of Islam is that Allah alone is the Provider. Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ was sent to teach people Tawḥīd and to clarify that all provision comes from Allah.
❖ Qur’anic Evidence
Allah alone is the Sustainer:
① ﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو الْقُوَّةِ الْمَتِينُ﴾
"Indeed, it is Allah Who is the Provider, the Possessor of strength, the Firm."
[al-Dhāriyāt: 58]
② ﴿وَمَا مِن دَابَّةٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلَّا عَلَى اللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا﴾
"There is no creature on earth except that its provision is upon Allah."
[Hūd: 6]
③ ﴿يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اذْكُرُوا نِعْمَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ ۚ هَلْ مِنْ خَالِقٍ غَيْرُ اللَّهِ يَرْزُقُكُم مِّنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ﴾
"O mankind, remember the favor of Allah upon you. Is there any Creator other than Allah who provides for you from the sky and the earth?"
[Fāṭir: 3]
❖ Prophetic Example of Supplication
The Prophet ﷺ himself sought provision only from Allah and taught his Ummah the same.
ʿAlī رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet ﷺ taught him the following words for seeking sufficiency:
«اللهم اكفني بحلالك عن حرامك وأغنني بفضلك عمن سواك»
"O Allah! Suffice me with Your lawful against Your unlawful, and enrich me by Your grace so that I need not depend on anyone besides You."
[al-Tirmidhī, 3563 – Ḥasan]
❖ Summary
- The mission of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was to call people to Tawḥīd.
- Any poetry, Naʿat, or expression that attributes divine qualities (such as provision of sustenance) to the Prophet ﷺ is contrary to Tawḥīd.
- True love for the Prophet ﷺ is to follow his teachings and to compose Naʿat that highlight the real message of Tawḥīd and Risālah.
