❀ Investigation of the Hadith Regarding Nūr Muḥammadī: “The First Creation Was My Light” ❀
Excerpted from: Fatāwā al-Dīn al-Khāliṣ, Vol. 1, p. 187
✿ Question
Is it authentic that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Allah created the light of His Prophet before anything else”?
✿ Answer
All praise is due to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His Messenger. To proceed:
The narration claiming that “The first thing Allah created was the light of the Prophet ﷺ” is not authentic. Similarly, statements like:
◈ “The first creation of Allah was the light of Muhammad ﷺ”
◈ “I am ‘Arabi without the letter ‘Ayn, meaning Rabb, and Ahmad without the letter Meem, meaning Aḥad”
—all such phrases are fabricated and baseless.
They neither have any sound chain of transmission nor are they found in the recognized collections of authentic Hadith.
❀ Origin of These Statements
Such claims are fabricated by misguided sects and deviant elements, often influenced by pseudo-Sufism and excessive glorification, with the intent to mislead Muslims from the true teachings of Islam.
❀ View of the Saudi Permanent Committee for Fatwas
In Fatāwā al-Lajnah al-Dā’imah (1/307–310), it is stated:
“These statements are false and baseless. They have no foundation in Islam and are invented by people themselves.”
❀ What Is Proven from Authentic Hadith?
Authentic narrations establish that:
“The first thing Allah created was the Pen, and He commanded it to write everything that would occur.”

❀ Research of Shaykh al-Albānī (رحمه الله)
In al-Silsilah al-Ḍaʿīfah (Ḥadīth No. 133, 1/207), Shaykh Nāṣir al-Dīn al-Albānī declares:
“This narration is based on an unknown chain of transmission and has no authentic origin in Hadith.”
❀ Critical Analysis of al-Mirqāt by ʿAlī al-Qārī
In Mirqāt al-Mafātīḥ (1/166–167), ʿAlī al-Qārī cites weak and fabricated narrations without critical commentary. For example:
✘ “The first thing Allah created was the intellect”
✘ “The first thing Allah created was my spirit”
✘ “Allah created my light before anything else”
He does not mention the chains of narration nor analyze their authenticity. His collection includes many unverifiable and rejected narrations, often cited without scrutiny.
❀ Opinions of Renowned Scholars
1. Muhammad Ṭāhir al-Fattanī (رحمه الله)
In Tadhkirat al-Mawḍūʿāt (p. 86), he clearly classifies this narration as fabricated (mawḍūʿ).
2. Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله)
He states:
“This narration is fabricated and has no basis whatsoever.”
(Kashf al-Thana’, 1/205)
✿ Summary
✔ The claim that “Allah created the light of the Prophet ﷺ before anything else” is not established in any authentic Hadith.
✔ Such statements are either weak, fabricated, or originate from Isra’ili or mystic sources.
✔ Islamic belief and practice must be founded upon authentic reports with sound chains of narration.
✔ According to authentic Hadith, the first creation was the Pen (al-Qalam), not the Prophet’s light.
✦ Conclusion
The doctrine of Nūr Muḥammadī as the first creation has no sound basis in Islam.
It must not be attributed to the Prophet ﷺ nor accepted as part of creed or evidence without verified authenticity.
