Allah Does Not Love These People: A Quranic and Scholarly Perspective

❖ Introduction

Among the Divine attributes of Allah ﷻ is love. Allah loves certain deeds and individuals, while He does not love others. Understanding whom Allah does not love is vital for every believer striving to gain His pleasure.

✿ ① Transgressors (المعتدین)

Verse:
[Al-A‘rāf: 55]
“Call upon your Lord humbly and privately. Indeed, He does not love the transgressors.”

Explanation by Shaykh al-Sa‘dī:
This includes those who:
– Ask Allah for impermissible things
– Supplicate with excessive volume or show-off
– Abandon du‘ā’ altogether

All such acts fall under iʿtidā’ (transgression), which is condemned.

✿ ② Corruptors on Earth (المفسدین)

Verse:
[Al-Qaṣaṣ: 77]
“Do not cause corruption on the earth after its reformation. Verily, Allah does not love the corrupters.”

Explanation:
Corruption includes sinning after a state of righteousness, spreading evil, and violating divine boundaries.

✿ ③ Betrayers (الخائنين)

Verse:
[Al-Anfāl: 58]
“Indeed, Allah does not love the betrayers.”

Ibn Kathīr:
If betrayal is suspected in a treaty, it should be annulled openly and fairly, not secretly. Even with disbelievers, treachery is forbidden.

Example from the Ṣaḥābah:
When Mu‘āwiyah رضي الله عنه attempted to advance troops prior to the treaty’s expiration, he was reminded of the Prophet’s ﷺ hadith:
"Fulfill treaties until they expire or you inform them clearly."
(Authentic: Musnad Aḥmad, Abū Dāwūd, Tirmidhī)

✿ ④ Those Who Cause Post-Reform Corruption

Verse:
[Al-A‘rāf: 56]

Explanation by Shaykh al-Sa‘dī:
Obedience and good deeds reform society. Sins corrupt morality, deeds, and provision, as Allah says:
﴿ظَهَرَ الْفَسَادُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ...﴾
[Al-Rūm: 41]
"Corruption has appeared on land and sea due to what hands have earned."

❖ Conclusion

From the verses and scholarly interpretations, we learn that Allah does not love:

① Those who transgress in supplication or worship
② Those who corrupt the earth after righteousness
③ Those who betray trusts or treaties
④ Those who spread evil after good has been established

A believer must avoid these qualities and strive for sincerity, righteousness, and justice to gain the love and mercy of Allah ﷻ.
