Allah’s Creative Power: The Reality of “كُنْ فَيَكُونُ”
✍ Written by: Qārī Usāmah bin ‘Abd al-Salām
This is a deeply important and profound question:
"What is that power of Allah by which He created the entire universe?"
Let us understand the answer through faith, Qur’an, reason, and simple examples.
What is that Power of Allah?
إِنَّمَا أَمْرُهُ إِذَا أَرَادَ شَيْئًا أَنْ يَقُولَ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ
(يس: 82)
"His command, when He intends a thing, is only that He says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is."
- Allah does not need tools, machines, workers, or time to create.
- He merely wills a thing, and it comes into existence.
Understanding Through Reason and Simple Examples
- Humans merely think, and an image forms instantly in the mind.
- For example: if you imagine “a golden palace floating on water”, an image forms immediately.
This ability is only given to us by Allah — and we are just created beings.
- Electricity itself cannot be seen.
- Yet it runs fans, televisions, and refrigerators.
Allah’s Creative Power in the Qur’an
➊ Allah created the heavens and the earth without precedent:
بَدِيعُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ
(البقرة: 117)
"The Originator of the heavens and the earth."
➋ His Power encompasses everything:
إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ
(Repeated more than 20 times in the Qur’an)
"Indeed, Allah is Powerful over all things."
