Advice and Guidelines for Healers

Compiled by: Dr. Raza Abdullah Pasha (May Allah Protect Him)

Is There Any Advice for Healers?
Answer:

Indeed!
Healers must stay away from dietary and herbal prescriptions because a healer by the Qur’an is neither a dietary specialist nor does he have any knowledge of herbal medicines. Even if these items are considered simple and have been mentioned in Hadiths, like talbinah, surmah, and senna, the measurement of these items and their incorporation in herbs and oils requires expertise.
Some of them instruct writing Surah Al-Waqi’ah, Al-Hashr, and Al-Mulk in a single container, meaning in such a container where all of these fit. Among the things that provoke my anger is when someone says: “Write Surah Al-Baqarah in a single plate,” meaning in a plate that can accommodate all 286 verses, even though verses sometimes have three lines each! For that, you would need a tub as large as an entire field—certainly not just a plate!
Some say: “Make the leader of the honeybees your nourishment,” while this is an extremely complicated matter.
Others will say: “Bring rainwater,” or they will seek water from springs and wells.
Some say: “In the spring season, bring such and such flowers.” Others say: “Hold the patient by the neck’s vein,” which is a dangerous thing.
Some instruct pressing the lower parts of the eyelids, which is very risky for the eyes.
Others demand a fumigation device, which is the work of magicians and deceivers.
Some advise abstaining from tea, coffee, and similar things. I do not understand how these things relate to healing!
Some say: “Don’t take medicine for calmness.”
Others propose writing a part of the Qur’an on paper, dissolving it in water, and drinking it—this is incorrect because paper is a printed item and the print material is not suitable for consumption.
Some suggest it is more appropriate to write on a Chinese vessel, then dissolve and drink it.
Some claim: “I will burn the jinn,” yet there is no proof for this, for burning with fire is among Allah’s attributes. It is better to say: “I will soon punish it through the Qur’an.”
Some gather people in a mosque, a house, or a room crowded with people and recite over them collectively, mixing dry and wet things, and eventually, they will leave in the same condition or even worse than before. A major mistake in this matter is to disregard listening to the patient’s explanation. It is essential in healing that you sit with the patient, listen to him well, and do not interrupt, even if he speaks at length, until you fully understand his purpose. His speaking about his illness provides relief for him and helps you understand the real issue.
If you sit with one patient and bring him benefit, that is better than seeing a hundred patients without helping any of them. The best approach is to sit with one, two, three, or more patients, listen to them in a measured way, and diagnose the situation thoroughly. Then give them the remedy from the Book of Allah that they need and continue to support them, even if only by phone.
