Did Pharaoh accuse Prophet Musa (عليه السلام) of being a magician?
The answer is found in the following statement of Allah Almighty:
“And We certainly gave Musa nine clear signs. So ask the Children of Israel when he came to them and Pharaoh said to him, ‘Indeed, I think, O Musa, you are affected by magic.’”
[Al-Isra: 101]
In this verse, Allah Almighty has stated that He sent Prophet Musa (عليه السلام) with nine clear signs, which were conclusive evidences of the truthfulness of his prophethood. These signs were also definitive proofs confirming that the message he brought was from the One who had sent him to Pharaoh. The miracles and evidences included the following:
① The Staff
② The Hand
③ The Famine
④ The Sea
⑤ The Storm
⑥ The Locusts
⑦ The Lice
⑧ The Frogs
⑨ The Blood
Alternatively, they were individual signs and miracles.
The word مَسْحُورًا used in the verse refers to being under a magical spell, which in context implies being a magician.
