A Scholarly and Research-Based Response to the Objections Against Sayyida Aisha رضي الله عنها

Clarification of the Doubt

Some people object regarding Sayyida Aisha that she used to raise many objections against the Holy Prophet ﷺ and others.

Answer to the Doubt

First Point

The main purpose of such objections is to cast doubt on the integrity of Sayyida Aisha, whereas the arguments on which these objections are based have no truth. It should be kept in mind that Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) was the wife of the Holy Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ had multiple marriages. Thus, it is natural for there to be variations in the relationships between women, which is related to the nature of women. On this basis, it would not be correct to blame any woman.

Second Point

It is objected that when the Holy Prophet ﷺ was given the authority that if any woman wished to dedicate herself to the Prophet ﷺ, then it was at his discretion, as mentioned in the verse of the Holy Quran.

تُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ
Reference: (Al-Ahzab 50, 51)

Translation: You may keep any of your wives whom you wish apart from yourselves, and you may keep any whom you wish close to you.

In the context of this verse, Sayyida Aisha presented to the Prophet ﷺ that your Lord is quick to fulfill your desires.

Some people object to this statement and want to defame Sayyida Aisha's personality through it, whereas the reality is that Sayyida Aisha's statement was meant to describe the status of the Prophet ﷺ. It is similar to what is mentioned in the Holy Quran:

قَدْ نَرَى تَقَلُّبَ وَجْهِكَ فِي السَّمَاءِ فَلَنُوَلِّيَنَّكَ قِبْلَةً تَرْضَاهَا
Reference: (Al-Baqarah:144)

Translation: (O Prophet ﷺ) Indeed, We have seen you often turning your face towards the sky, so We will surely turn you to a qiblah that you will be pleased with.

Sayyida Aisha expressed the same idea in her own way on a special occasion, so it is not objectionable; rather, Sayyida Aisha was describing the status of the Prophet ﷺ.

However, those who study hadith with critical intentions will find everything objectionable.

Third Point

In this regard, another narration is mentioned in which Sayyida Aisha said that Maria Qibtiyya's son did not resemble you ﷺ at all. This narration is very weak; it includes a narrator Abu Muadh Sulayman bin Arqam Al-Ansari who is abandoned. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Kitab al-Majruhin
Reference: (1/413)
and stated that he alters hadiths and narrates fabricated reports from trustworthy narrators. Imam Ahmad and Ibn Ma'in have said about him "Laysa bishi'" (not reliable).
