A Reasoned Response to Objections on the Marital Life of the Prophet ﷺ

Clarification of the Doubt

The hadith states that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had marital relations with all his wives in one night.
Reference: (Sahih Bukhari:5068)

Whereas logically this is not possible, and the Prophet ﷺ was engaged in الله تعالى worship and the affairs of the Muslims, and this matter is also against the principles of cleanliness.

Answer to the Doubt

First Point

It is not correct to declare this incident against reason while the Holy Quran and authentic blessed hadiths mention various characteristics and unique abilities of the noble prophets. The distinction of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ’s power is also described in many hadiths. See:
Reference: Sahih Bukhari 268, 4101, Sahih Muslim 1479, 523, Fath al-Bari (1/377)
.

Second Point

It is not correct to say this is against the principles of cleanliness because this incident is to explain that it is better to perform ghusl (ritual bath) after marital relations, otherwise washing the private parts or performing wudu (ablution) is also correct. The Prophet ﷺ did not perform ghusl to provide practical guidance to the Ummah that doing so is permissible.

Imam Bukhari gave this title to the hadith:
Reference: (Statement that a man may visit all his wives with one single bath)
.

Third Point

It should be noted that this was not the usual practice of the Prophet ﷺ; rather, his usual practice was to live his marital life according to the fixed turns. But on some occasions, for example, when the Prophet ﷺ returned from a journey or after completing one schedule of turns and before starting another schedule, he ﷺ visited all his wives.

Another Doubt

Another doubt raised here is: How could you ﷺ do this when you maintained equality and justice among your wives?

Answer to this Doubt

So the answer is that if the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ visited all his wives on their turn, then certainly this included the permission of أم المؤمنين because the Prophet ﷺ always established justice. Even a few days before his death, when he was seriously ill and was moved to each wife's chamber on their turn, which was quite difficult, he would ask daily whose turn it was the next day. From this, the family realized that the Prophet ﷺ wanted to stay with Lady Aisha رضي الله عنها, so with the consent of all the wives, he was moved to Aisha رضي الله عنها's chamber.
Reference: (Sahih Bukhari: 4450)
.

It was found that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, while enduring illness, was fulfilling the turns of his wives completely, and it was also found that all the wives preferred to move him to the chamber of Lady Aisha رضي الله عنها for the ease of the Prophet ﷺ. That is, the pure wives would give up their turns for one another.

Lady Suda رضي الله عنها had herself given her turn to Lady Aisha رضي الله عنها.
Reference: (Sahih Bukhari: 5215, Sahih Muslim: 1463)

Summary

These evidences make it clear that if the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ gave time to all his wives during the turn of one wife, it was done with the consent of that wife and was done for the education and guidance of this Ummah.
