A moment of reflection for those who insult the Companions of the Prophet

A Moment of Reflection for Those Who Insult the Companions of the Prophet, May Allah Be Pleased with Them

And (for) those who were settled in the home before them and in faith, they love those who emigrated to them and have no desire in their hearts for that which is given to the emigrants, and they prefer themselves over themselves, even though they are in privation. And whoever is protected from the greed of his soul - it is those who will be the successful.

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, says:

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, says: Whoever harbors hatred towards the Companions of the Prophet, may Allah be pleased with them, and speaks ill of them, then there is no share for him in the wealth of the Muslims.

Commentary:

Those who do not adopt this attribute, that is, those who harbor enmity towards the believers in their hearts, cannot be considered among the true ranks of the believers according to this verse.

This clarification tells us that the true sign of a believer is that he holds love for the believers in his heart and has no enmity or hatred in their hearts.

It is narrated from Urwah that Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said to me: O my nephew! People were commanded to seek forgiveness for the Companions, but they spoke ill of them: (The command to seek forgiveness is in this verse (رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالْإِيمَان) (سورة الحشر:10)

Nasir bin Dhalooq says that Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما used to say: "Do not insult the companions of Muhammad ﷺ, being in the company of the Noble Prophet ﷺ for one moment is better than all the deeds of your entire life."

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah Almighty has chosen me and has chosen some noble companions for me, among whom He made some ministers, helpers, and relatives. Whoever insults (these noble companions), then upon him is the curse of Allah, the curse of the angels, and the curse of all people. On the Day of Judgment, Allah will not accept any of his deeds.

Imam Shu'bi رحمه الله said:

The superiority of Jews and Christians over the Rafidah is due to one characteristic: When the Jews were asked who are the best people of their nation, they said: "The companions of Moses (peace be upon him) are the best." And when the same question was asked to the Christians, they said: "The companions of Jesus are the best." When the Rafidah (Shia) were asked who are the worst people of their nation (seeking forgiveness from Allah), they said: "The companions of Muhammad ﷺ are the worst." Although they were commanded to seek forgiveness for the companions, they insulted them. The sword will be drawn against these people until the Day of Judgment. No banner will be established for them, their feet will not remain firm, and their words will never take root. Whenever they ignite the fire of war, Allah will extinguish it by their blood being shed and by weakening their arguments. May Allah protect us and you from misleading ideologies.

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: These people only wanted to object to the Prophet ﷺ, but they failed in that. So they began to object to the companions of the Prophet ﷺ in order to say, 'He was a bad person who had bad people with him.' Although the man was righteous, and his companions were righteous. But the reality is that every person among the companions of the Prophet ﷺ helped Allah and His Messenger ﷺ, protected the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and assisted in the propagation of Islam, while the religion of the Prophet ﷺ was not yet fully established and the hearts of the people were not yet at peace with it. And it is known that if a person speaks of goodness among people and then someone harms him, his companions also become angry and consider that harm to be wrong.

The statement of Imam Muafi bin Imran, may Allah have mercy on him. Someone asked him, what is the difference between Umar bin Abdul Aziz, may Allah have mercy on him, and Sayyiduna Amir Muawiya, may Allah be pleased with him? Upon hearing this, he became angry and said: No one should make assumptions about the companions of Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Sayyiduna Amir Muawiya, may Allah be pleased with him, was the scribe of the Prophet ﷺ, his relative, and the trustee of Allah's revelation upon him ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Forgive my companions and relatives. Whoever speaks ill of them, may Allah, His angels, and all people curse him.

Whoever insults (these noble companions), then upon him is the curse of Allah, the curse of the angels, and the curse of all people.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) in which he stated:

Some companions said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'O Messenger of Allah, we are being insulted.' So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever insults my companions, then upon him is the curse of Allah, the curse of the angels, and the curse of all people. Allah will accept neither his obligatory deeds nor his voluntary deeds.'

Abu Zur'ah, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "When you see that a person speaks ill of any of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then know that this person is a heretic (i.e., deviated from the religion). The reason is that for us, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is the truth, and the Quran is the truth. And the Quran and Sunnah have been conveyed to us by the noble companions. Those who speak ill of the companions want to invalidate the Quran and Sunnah by insulting our witnesses, and insulting them is better for them, and they are heretics.

Our master Zayd ibn Khalid, may Allah be pleased with him, says that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do not insult the rooster, for it wakes you up for the Fajr prayer.

Reference: Sunan Abi Dawood::5101

From the aforementioned hadith, it is understood that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ forbade speaking ill of the rooster solely because it wakes us up for the Fajr prayer. So, what do you think about the Companions of the Prophet, may Allah be pleased with them all, who conveyed the religion to us exactly as the Prophet ﷺ left it? Can we speak ill of them? Absolutely not, because they played an extremely important role in delivering Islam to us. This is a great virtue that we should always keep in mind.
