A Great Hadith Scholar Among the Imams: The Legacy of Imam Duḥaym

✦ The Preservation of Hadith and the Role of Hadith Imams

By: Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Ameenpuri (Hafizahullah)
Reorganized with headings for clarity and ease of reading.

The noble Hadith is an integral part of the Islamic faith. To preserve it, Allah raised exceptional individuals known as the Imams of Hadith, who dedicated their lives to memorizing, authenticating, and transmitting the Prophetic traditions with precision.

Imam al-Dhahabī (673–748 AH), a foremost authority on Hadith criticism, profoundly highlighted their rank:
“O Shaykh! Fear Allah, show mercy to yourself, and uphold justice. Do not look upon these ḥuffāẓ (Hadith masters) with contempt. Do not compare them to the narrators of our era. By Allah, none of those I’ve named — and all praise is due to Allah — lacked insight in the religion or the path to salvation…”
(📘 Tadhkirat al-Ḥuffāẓ, 2/627-628)
