Sign of the Day of Judgment: The Emergence of the Dajjal
Hazrat Hudhaifa bin Asid Ghafari (RA) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) came while we were talking among ourselves. The Prophet (PBUH) asked: What are you talking about? The people said: We are talking about the Day of Judgment. The Prophet (PBUH) said: The Day of Judgment will never come until you see ten signs before it. Then the Prophet (PBUH) described them:
➊ Smoke
➋ The Dajjal
➌ The Beast of the Earth
➍ The sun rising from the west
➎ The descent of Hazrat Isa bin Maryam (Jesus, son of Mary)
➏ Gog and Magog; people will be swallowed up in the earth in three places:
➐ In the East
➑ In the West
➒ In the Arabian Peninsula
➓ And finally, a fire will emerge from Yemen which will gather people to the place of resurrection.

The Messiah Dajjal will be the leader of all Dajjals and liars:
It is narrated from Hazrat Samrah bin Jundub (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: By Allah! The Day of Judgment will not occur until thirty liars appear, the last of whom will be the Dajjal, whose left eye will be defective.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) said that I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say that before the Messiah Dajjal, thirty (30) or more false claimants will appear (and all this) will happen before the Day of Judgment.

Hazrat Imran bin Husain (RA) said that I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) say that from the birth of Adam until the Day of Judgment, there is no greater trial than the Dajjal.

The Dajjal will emerge in great anger:
Nafi, may Allah have mercy on him, said that Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, met Ibn Sayyad on a street in Medina, and said something to him that made him so angry that he swelled up and filled the entire street (with his swelling). Ibn Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, then went to Hazrat Hafsa, may Allah be pleased with her, who had already heard about it and said: May Allah have mercy on you, what was your concern with Ibn Sayyad? Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said that he (the Dajjal) will emerge because of some anger? (And perhaps Ibn Sayyad himself is the Dajjal who would emerge in such anger).

The Appearance and Form of the Dajjal:
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: I was sleeping (in a dream) and performing Tawaf of the Kaaba when I saw a man who was wheat-colored and his hair was straight as if water was dripping from it (I looked at him). I asked, "Who is this?" People told me that this is Hazrat Isa bin Maryam (Jesus, son of Mary). Then I turned and saw a stout man who was red in complexion, his hair was curly, and he was one-eyed, as if his eye was swollen like a grape. People told me that this is the Dajjal. His appearance was very similar to Abdul Uzza bin Qatan, who was a person from Banu Khuzaa (who died in the pre-Islamic era).

Will the Dajjal be a human?
It is narrated from Hazrat Ubada bin Samit (RA) that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: I have informed you about the Dajjal, and I fear that you may not recognize him. The false Messiah (Dajjal) will be a short man, with curly hair, one eye blind and dusty, neither very protruding nor very sunken. Still, if you have any doubt about him, then know well that your Lord is not one-eyed.

Is the Dajjal alive?
Hazrat Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) came to the pulpit after finishing the prayer and smilingly said that every person should remain seated at their place of prayer. Then he said, "Do you know why I have gathered you?" The people said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "By Allah, I have not gathered you for exhortation and admonition, but because Tamim Dari (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a Christian, has taken the oath of allegiance to me and entered the fold of Islam. He has given me news about the Antichrist (Dajjal) just as I used to give you. He said that he was on a sea voyage with thirty men from the tribes of Lakhm and Judham, and for a month the sea waves played with their ship until their ship landed on an island towards the west. Then they boarded a small boat and went ashore on the island where they found a hairy animal whose face or tail was unidentifiable. They asked, 'Who are you?' The animal said, 'I am a spy.' They asked, 'Whose spy?' It said, 'Go to the man who is in the wilderness and is eager to know about you.' Tamim Dari (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when the animal mentioned that man's name, we feared that it might be a devil. Tamim Dari said that then we hurriedly entered the wilderness and there we saw such a huge man that we had never seen a man so tall but bound! His both hands were tied behind his neck and his feet were bound with strong iron at the ankles. We said, 'Wretched one! Who are you?' He said, 'You will get my news anyway, so tell me who you are.' The people said, 'We are Arabs and were traveling on a sea ship when a storm arose, and for a month our ship was tossed by waves. Then we reached near this island and entered it by a small boat, where we found this animal whose face or back was unrecognizable due to the abundance of hair. We asked it, "Wretched one! Who are you?" It said, "I am a spy. Go to the man in the wilderness; he is very eager to know about you." So we quickly came to you, and we thought that this (animal) was a devil.' The Dajjal said, 'Give me news of the palm groves of Baisan (in Syria).' We said, 'What news do you want?' He said, 'Do they bear fruit?' We said, 'Yes!' He said, 'Soon they will no longer bear fruit.' He said, 'Give me news of the Sea of Tiberias. Is there flowing water in it?' We said, 'Yes! It flows abundantly.' He said, 'Soon it will dry up.' He said, 'Tell me about the spring of Zagr (in Syria). Is there water in it, and do people cultivate crops with its water?' We said, 'Yes! There is water, and people cultivate crops with it.' He said, 'Give me news of the Arab Prophet.' We said, 'He has migrated from Mecca to Yathrib (Medina).' He said, 'Have the Arabs fought with him?' We said, 'Yes!' He said, 'What was the outcome?' We said, 'That Prophet has become dominant in his surroundings.' He said, 'Is it really so?' We said, 'Yes!' He said, 'Obedience to him is better for the people.' And about me, listen: I am the Messiah Dajjal, and soon I will be permitted to emerge, and in forty (40) days I will conquer the entire earth, but Mecca and Taybah (Medina) are forbidden for me. If I turn towards either of these cities (Mecca or Medina), the angels wielding swords who are appointed as guards there will stop me.' The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) struck his staff on the pulpit three times and said, 'This is Taybah (Medina).' (And he is the Dajjal.) 'Did I not tell you about him?' The people said, 'Yes, indeed!' Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said, 'I liked Tamim's report because it resembles the news I used to give you about the Dajjal and Mecca and Medina. Beware, he (the Dajjal) is not in the river of Sham or the river of Yemen, but he is towards the east, he is towards the east, he is towards the east,' and the Prophet (peace be upon him) pointed towards the east with his hand.

In some narrations, besides the mentioned questions of the Dajjal, additional questions are also mentioned. Upon receiving the desired answers, the Dajjal starts jumping with joy and shouting loudly.

Did the Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم see the Dajjal?
It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: On the night of Mi'raj, I saw Musa (Moses) (peace be upon him). He was wheat-colored, tall, and had curly hair, looking as if he belonged to the tribe of Shinwah. I also saw Isa (Jesus) (peace be upon him), who was of medium height, medium build, fair-skinned, and had straight hair. I saw the gatekeeper of Hell and I also saw the Dajjal. Among other things, I saw the verses that Allah showed me (mentioned in Surah As-Sajda, verse 23). Therefore, O Prophet (peace be upon him), do not have any doubt about meeting them.

The Deceiver's Tricks:
It is narrated from Hazrat Nawas bin Samaan (RA) that one morning the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) mentioned the Dajjal, describing him as insignificant and his trial as great (sometimes speaking loudly and sometimes softly) until we thought that perhaps the Dajjal had entered the grove of trees. Then in the evening, we went to him and he (PBUH) asked: What is the matter? We said that you had informed us well about the Dajjal and we thought that perhaps he was in that palm grove. The Prophet (PBUH) said: I fear for you trials greater than the Dajjal. If the Dajjal appears during my lifetime, I will stand as a barrier between you and his evil to protect you. And if he appears after me, then every one of you will be a proof against him, and Allah will appoint my successor and guardian over every Muslim. The Dajjal is a young man with curly hair, one eye protruding, and he will resemble 'Abd al-'Uzzā (a disbeliever). So whoever among you sees the Dajjal should recite the opening verses of Surah Al-Kahf. The Dajjal will emerge from the desert route between Syria and Iraq and will spread trials and corruption on both sides. O servants of Allah! Remain steadfast in faith. The Companions asked: How long will the Dajjal stay on earth? The Prophet (PBUH) said: Forty (40) days, of which one day will be like a year, one day like a month, one day like a week, and the rest will be like normal days. (That is, one year, two months, and two weeks.) The Companions asked: O Messenger of Allah! How will we pray on the day that is like a year? Will one day's prayers suffice? He said: No! You should estimate that (year) as you do normal days. The Companions asked: O Messenger of Allah! What will be his manner of walking? He said: Like the rain driven by the wind from behind. Then he will go to a people and invite them to disbelief, which they will accept. Then he will command the sky to send down rain, and the sky will send rain. Then he will command the earth to grow crops, on which their animals will graze, whose humps will be higher, their flanks wider, and their bellies well swollen. Then the Dajjal will go to another people and invite them to disbelief, but they will refuse, so the Dajjal will turn away from them, and they will suffer famine and drought until they have nothing left of their wealth. Meanwhile, the Dajjal will go to barren and desolate land and command it: O earth! Bring forth your treasures. Then the treasures of the earth will gather around him as bees gather around the queen bee. Then the Dajjal will call a young man and tear him into two pieces as clearly as a target is divided, then call him (back to life), and the young man will come to him with a shining, radiant, and cheerful face. Meanwhile, Allah Almighty will send down Hazrat Isa ibn Maryam (AS) dressed in yellow clothes near the white minaret in the city of Damascus in the east.

Hazrat Hudhayfah (RA) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah say that when the Dajjal emerges, he will be accompanied by water (paradise) and fire (hell), which people will mistake for fire and cold water respectively. The water that people think is fire will actually be cold water, and the fire that people think is cold water will actually be burning fire. So if any of you encounters this (trial), he should enter into what appears to be fire because it is actually cold water.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed (RA) that one day the Prophet (PBUH) told us a long hadith about the Dajjal. In the hadith, it was mentioned that the Dajjal will come and it will be impossible for him to enter the valleys (paths) of Medina. So he will stay near Medina in some desolate land. Then on that day, a believing man, who will be among the best of people, will go to him and say to the Dajjal: I bear witness that you are the Dajjal about whom the Messenger of Allah told us. The Dajjal will say to the people: If I kill this man and then bring him back to life, will you still doubt my lordship? The people will say: No! So he will kill the man and then bring him back to life. Then the man will say: By Allah! I did not have such insight about you before, but now I do (that you are indeed the Dajjal). Then the Dajjal will try to kill him again, but this time he will not be able to.

When he emerges, he will have two valleys with him, one of Paradise and the other of Fire. His fire will be like Paradise, but his Paradise will be like fire. He will have two angels with him who will appear as two prophets. If I wish, I can even tell you their names and their ancestors. One will be on the right side of the Dajjal and the other on the left, and they will be a trial. The Dajjal will say: O people! Am I not your Lord? Do I not give life and cause death? Then one angel will say: You lie, but no one except the other angel will hear this. The companion angel will reply: Yes, your statement is true (that he is a liar and not the Lord). People will hear the second angel and think that perhaps he is telling the truth about the Dajjal, while in fact, the second angel is confirming the first angel's statement that the Dajjal is a liar, and this will be a trial. Then the Dajjal will proceed towards Medina but will not be allowed to enter it. He will say: This is the town of so-and-so (Muhammad, peace be upon him).
It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (RA) that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: Every prophet warned his nation about the one-eyed and false Dajjal. Beware! He is one-eyed, although your Lord is not one-eyed. The word "Kafir" will be written between the eyes of this Dajjal.
Reference: Bukhari: Book of Tribulations: Chapter on Mentioning the Dajjal 7131, Muslim 2933, Abu Dawood 4316, Tirmidhi 2245
In one narration, the Prophet (PBUH) said: Between his two eyes, the word "Kafir" will be written, then he spelled it out (K.F.R) so that every Muslim could read it.

Both Eyes of the Dajjal Will Be Defective:
Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The Dajjal's right eye will be blind, as if it is a protruding grape.
Reference: Bukhari, Book of Tribulations, Chapter on Mentioning the Dajjal 7123
It is narrated from Hazrat Hudhaifa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: The Dajjal is blind in his left eye.

He will not be able to enter Makkah and Madinah:
It is narrated from Hazrat Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her) that there is a long hadith about the Dajjal in which the Dajjal says that I will trample the entire earth in forty (40) days, except Makkah and Madinah Tayyibah. These two have been made forbidden for me. Whenever I intend to enter either of these cities, an angel wielding a sword will come out to meet me and prevent me from entering. On every path to these two cities, guardian angels will be standing.

He will not be able to kill
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: At the time of the emergence of the Dajjal, a believing person will set out towards him. The soldiers of the Dajjal will catch him and ask, "Do you believe in our Lord?" When he denies, they will want to kill him. Some among them will say, "Has your Lord (the Dajjal) not forbidden you from killing anyone?" Then they will take him to the Dajjal. When the believer sees the Dajjal, he will say, "O people! This is the Dajjal whose trials the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) warned us about." The Dajjal will stretch his belly and back and have his soldiers beat him severely, and will say, "Do you believe now?" The believer will say, "You are a lying deceiver." The Dajjal will saw him into two pieces from head to foot and walk between them, then say, "Rise!" The believer will (alive) stand up. The Dajjal will then ask, "Now do you believe in me?" The believer will say, "Now I am firmly certain that you are the Dajjal," and will say to the people, "O people! After me, no one will be able to impose himself upon you." The Dajjal will try to slaughter him, but the believer's throat will become like a copper tube up to the Adam's apple, and the Dajjal will not be able to slaughter him. Then he will grab his hands and feet and throw him. People will think he has thrown him into the fire, but he will be placed in Paradise. In the sight of Allah, the Lord of the Worlds, this believer will be the greatest martyr (witness).

It is narrated from Hazrat Hisham (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Whoever says to the Dajjal (while denying his lordship), "You are a liar, my Lord is Allah in whom I trust (Rabbi Allahu 'alayhi tawakkalt)," the Dajjal will not be able to harm him.

One should seek refuge from the trials of the Dajjal:
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge from the trial of the Dajjal in his prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to recite this supplication in his prayer (in some narrations it is mentioned that he used to seek refuge in this way): O Allah! I seek Your protection from the punishment of the grave, from the blind, deaf, and false Messiah (Dajjal), from the trials of life and death, and from sin and debt.

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: When you finish the last Tashahhud (in prayer), seek Allah’s protection from four things:
➊ The punishment of the grave
➋ The punishment of Hellfire
➌ The trials of life and death

It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that indeed the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge from four things at the end of the prayer (according to some narrations at the end of Tashahhud):
➊ O my Lord! I seek refuge from the punishment of the grave
➋ The punishment of Hellfire
➌ The outward and inward (trials of life and death)
➍ And from the blind, deaf, false (Messiah Dajjal) I seek Your protection.

Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him) used to often supplicate: O Allah! I seek Your protection from the trial and punishment of the fire. O my Lord! I seek Your protection from the trial and punishment of the grave, from the trials of wealth and poverty. O Allah! I seek Your protection from the worst trial of the false Messiah (Dajjal).

In the Divine Court, the status of Dajjal is not even equal to that of a "feather"
Hazrat Mughirah bin Shu'bah (RA) narrates that no one asked the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as much about Dajjal as I did, and the Prophet (PBUH) said to me, "What harm will he cause you?" I said, "People say that he will have mountains of bread and rivers of water with him!" He said, "He is easier than that upon Allah." (Meaning, what is the status of Dajjal compared to the Divine Power? And Allah Almighty has also given Dajjal this leeway so that people may be tested.)

For how many days will Dajjal roam the earth:
It is narrated from Hazrat Nawas bin Samaan (RA) that one day the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) mentioned the Dajjal. We asked: O Messenger of Allah! How long will the Dajjal stay? He (PBUH) said: Forty days; one day will be like a year, the second like a month, the third like a week, and the rest of the days will be like normal days (i.e., one year, two months, and two weeks). We asked: O Messenger of Allah! On the day that is like a year, will it be sufficient for us to pray one day's prayers (or will we have to pray for the whole year)? He (PBUH) said: No (not five times), but estimate that day as if it were a year (and perform the prayers accordingly throughout the year).

It is narrated from Hazrat Fatima bint Qais (RA) that: I inform you about myself, I am the Antichrist (Dajjal), and soon I will be permitted to emerge. Then I will come out and roam the earth, and I will trample every settlement (city) except Mecca and Medina within forty nights because these two (Mecca and Medina) are forbidden for me. Who will prove to be the toughest people for the Dajjal?
Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) says that because of three things I heard from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), I always love Banu Tamim. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said about them: that these people will prove to be the most severe opponents of the Dajjal among my Ummah. Then (Abu Huraira RA) said that when the Zakat money came from Banu Tamim, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said: this is the Zakat of our people. A woman from Banu Tamim was a captive (slave) with Hazrat Aisha (RA), and the Holy Prophet (PBUH) said to her: free her, she is from the descendants of Hazrat Ismail (AS).

These people will prove to be the foremost in attacking the Dajjal with long spears more than anyone else.

It is narrated from Hazrat Samrah bin Jundub (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: By Allah! The Day of Judgment will not occur until thirty false claimants appear, among whom the last will be the one-eyed Dajjal, whose left eye will be blind. It is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: The Dajjal will encamp on the marshy land of Marqana (a valley near Medina), and the majority of women will go to him. A man will go to his close relatives, mother, daughter, sister, and paternal aunt and tie them with a rope so that they do not go to the Dajjal. The Place of the Murder of the Accursed Dajjal
It is narrated from Hazrat Nawas bin Samaan (RA) that one morning the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) mentioned the Dajjal. He is a young man with curly hair, and his eye is protruding. I could say he resembles Abdul Uzza bin Qatan. Whoever among you encounters him should recite the opening verses of Surah Al-Kahf over him. The Dajjal will come to a nation and invite them to faith; they will believe in him. Then the Dajjal will command the sky, and the sky will send down rain. Then he will command the earth, and the earth will produce vegetation. He will command a barren land to bring forth its treasures, and the treasures will come out and follow the Dajjal as bees follow their master. Then he will call a strong young man and kill him by cutting him into two pieces with a sword. Then he will call him, and he will come back to life, turning towards him with a cheerful face and smiling. At that time, Allah Almighty will send down Hazrat Isa (Jesus) (AS), and whoever the breath of Hazrat Isa reaches among the disbelievers will perish. His breath will reach as far as his sight, and he will search for the Dajjal and kill him at the place called Lydda.

Benefits:
➊ The emergence of the Dajjal is one of the greatest signs of the Day of Judgment, which has not yet occurred.
➋ Like Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), the Dajjal is also called Messiah. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) is called Messiah because the sick would be healed by his touch, whereas the Dajjal is called Messiah because one of his eyes will be blind (covered with a layer of dust), or because he will roam the earth for forty days. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) is called Messiah al-Hadi (the guided Messiah) and the Dajjal is called Messiah ad-Dallalah (the misleading Messiah) because he will mislead people with his tricks.
Dajjal comes from the word "Dajjal" which means to mix or confuse, and he is called Dajjal because he will mix truth with falsehood to deceive people. For this reason, every deceiver is called a Dajjal.

➌ Before the Day of Judgment, approximately thirty (30) Dajjals and liars will appear, some of whom have already been recorded in history as masters of deception, while others will inevitably appear in the future. Finally, the "Great Dajjal" will emerge.
➍ The Dajjal will emerge with great anger, but his emergence will not be possible without divine permission.
➎ The Dajjal is alive, and only Allah, the Knower of the unseen, knows his location. Although geographers have searched every inch of the earth, defining its boundaries in terms of cities, countries, and continents, they have found no trace of him. Authentic hadiths confirm that the Dajjal is a person who is alive and imprisoned with iron chains on an island on the earth. As narrated by Hazrat Tamim Dari (may Allah be pleased with him) and others, they met him on an island, and the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) not only confirmed their meeting but also gathered all the companions and personally narrated the strange incident of this meeting. In any case, we cannot prefer human knowledge and research over the knowledge and power of Allah, which would imply denying divine power.
➏ The Dajjal is a man who was shown to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) during the Night of Ascension (Isra and Mi'raj) and in a dream so that he could inform people about his signs and features. Some scholars have considered him a jinn.
➐ The word "Kafir" (disbeliever) will be written on the Dajjal's forehead, which every person will be able to read easily, even if they are illiterate.
➑ Some hadiths describe the Dajjal as short in stature, while others describe him as large-bodied. Similarly, some hadiths mention his complexion as red, others as white. Some narrations say his right eye is blind, others say his left eye is blind. At first glance, these narrations seem contradictory, but they can be reconciled as follows: The Dajjal (by Allah’s permission) will display many extraordinary phenomena, including changes in his own appearance. Sometimes he will appear short, sometimes very tall, but generally, he will be large-bodied, which is why he will be able to dominate the earth in forty days.
Likewise, both his eyes will be defective; sometimes his right eye will appear blind, sometimes the left, but in any case, the defect will remain. Similarly, sometimes his eyes will appear white, sometimes greenish like glass.
His complexion will sometimes be predominantly red and sometimes white, or this may mean that in very fair skin, the blood circulation is visible, giving a reddish tint.

➒ Just as Allah grants His prophets various extraordinary miracles to confirm and support them, He will also allow many supernatural phenomena to appear through the Dajjal as a test of people's faith and monotheism. For example, the Dajjal will cause rain to fall from the sky, make the earth produce vegetation and treasures, and even bring the dead back to life. However, it must be understood that these miracles will also occur by Allah’s permission because not even a leaf moves without His command, so how could the Dajjal perform such great miracles without divine permission? In fact, he will be so powerless that he will not be able to erase the word "Kafir" written on his forehead, nor enter Makkah or Madinah, nor cure his blind eye. This is clear evidence that he is a disbeliever, a liar, and a trial from Allah.
➓ The Dajjal is the greatest trial in the world. This can be easily understood from the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) statement that every prophet warned his nation about the Dajjal, and the Prophet himself used to seek refuge from the Dajjal’s trial and advised people to seek protection from it.
⓫ The Dajjal’s ability to cause rain from the sky, command the earth to grow plants, reveal treasures, and other such miracles will be real, but his promised paradise and hell are illusions. Therefore, the Prophet (peace be upon him) instructed his nation that if anyone encounters the Dajjal, they should prefer his hell because it is actually paradise, and his paradise is actually fire.

It is also possible that his fire is indeed fire, and whoever is thrown into it will burn to ashes, but the one who endures the punishment of the Dajjal due to steadfast faith will actually be saved from Allah’s fire (Hell). However, the one who believes in the Dajjal and enters his false paradise will be deprived of the true paradise prepared by Allah.
⓬ Some hadiths mention the place of the Dajjal’s emergence as Khorasan, some mention the East, some mention Isfahan, and others mention the middle route between Sham (Syria) and Iraq. Many people consider these hadiths contradictory and dismiss them as weak, but the hadiths are authentic and upon reflection, there is no real contradiction.
Imam Qurtubi (may Allah have mercy on him) says:
The investigation shows that he will emerge from Khorasan and Isfahan, and the reconciliation is that his emergence will begin in the Isfahan area of Khorasan, then he will head towards Hijaz, using the desert area between Sham and Iraq.
Reference: Hashiyah Sindhi Ibn Majah 509/2
These areas are located towards the East. It is established that the Dajjal will emerge from the Jewish neighborhood of Isfahan in Khorasan and will travel towards Hijaz through the desert area between Sham and Iraq.
⓭ To be safe from the trial of the Dajjal, one should follow the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which are:
1. Stay away from the Dajjal.
2. Seek refuge from the trial of the Dajjal from Allah.
3. Recite the beginning or the last verses of Surah Al-Kahf.
⓮ Some hadiths mention reciting the first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf for protection from the Dajjal, some mention the last verses, some mention any ten verses, and some mention memorizing rather than reciting.
The reconciliation is that any ten verses can be recited (this is a general narration), while the first or last ten verses are specific narrations. According to the principle of jurisprudence, the specific takes precedence over the general, so the first or last ten verses should be recited.
The narrations mentioning memorization mean that the verses should be memorized and recited so that if one encounters the Dajjal and does not have the Quran physically, they can still recite them.
⓯ The Dajjal will claim lordship (divinity) and invite people to worship him. Those who fall for his deceptive invitation will receive rain, treasures, and entry into his paradise, which is actually fire (Hell).
⓰ Whoever denies the Dajjal in front of him and recites:
“I am sufficient for myself with Allah; in Him I have placed my trust.”
And also recites:
“Our Lord is Allah, besides Whom there is no true deity, and we seek refuge in Allah from you.”
And recites the beginning or last verses of Surah Al-Kahf, the Dajjal will not be able to trap him in his trial. If the Dajjal throws him into his fire, he will be successful because the Dajjal’s fire is Allah’s paradise, meaning that person has escaped the trial of the Dajjal and attained paradise.
⓱ The Dajjal will stay on earth for forty (40) days, of which one day will be like a year, another like a month, another like a week, and the rest will be normal days. This totals one year, two months, and two weeks. However, some companions did not know the exact duration after the forty days.
For example, Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that he did not know whether these forty days were actual days, nights, months, or years, but other authentic hadiths specify forty days and provide details.
⓲ The Dajjal will dominate the entire earth within forty days, but Makkah and Madinah will be safe from his evil. Therefore, if possible, one should reside in Makkah or Madinah during that time. آمين
⓳ Most of those caught in the trial of the Dajjal will be Jews, followed by non-Arabs, Turks, ignorant and uncultured women, and all hypocrites and disbelievers.
(20) The Dajjal has no status in the sight of Allah, not even equal to the wing of a mosquito.
(21) Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), who will have descended again, will fight the Dajjal and his army along with his Muslim companions. In this great battle, the Dajjal will be killed by Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) at the place called Luddah, and all Jews and disbelievers will be annihilated. Even trees and stones will call out to the Muslims, saying: “O Muslim, this Jew (or disbeliever) is behind me; kill him.”
