❖ Ruling on Repeating “Allah Allah” as a Wazīfah or Chant
A Detailed Explanation in the Light of Qur’an and Sunnah
Source: Fatāwā Arkān-e-Islām
◈ 1. The Religion of Allah and Obedience to the Messenger ﷺ
◈ Allah ﷻ has sent the Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ as the final and complete source of guidance until the Day of Judgment.
◈ The Sharīʿah of the Prophet ﷺ—comprising the Qur’an (waḥy jalī) and Sunnah (waḥy khafī)—has abrogated all previous laws.
◈ 2. Objective of Worship: Obedience and Salvation
◈ The primary goal of worship is to attain Allah’s pleasure, enter Paradise, and avoid Hellfire.
◈ Achieving Allah’s pleasure is conditional upon obedience to His commands, conveyed by His Messenger ﷺ.
﴿وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا﴾
(Al-Ḥashr: 7)
“Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you, abstain from it.”

◈ 3. Rejection of Acts Not Based on Sunnah
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Whoever performs an action that is not in accordance with our command, it is rejected."
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī – Kitāb al-Iʿtiṣām)

◈ 4. Differentiating Between Duʿā’ and Adhkār
◈ Duʿā’ can be made in any language and context, provided it is free of ḥarām content.
◈ Adhkār, however, are specific phrases repeatedly recited, often with prescribed wording, timing, and meanings.
✔ Duʿā’ = General, flexible
✔ Dhikr = Structured, formulaic, rooted in prophetic tradition
◈ 5. Importance of Muthūr Adhkār (Prophetic Adhkār)
✔ Phrases like:
“Lā ilāha illā Allāh”, “SubḥānAllāh”, “Al-ḥamdu lillāh”, “Astaghfirullāh”, etc.
are all authentically reported from the Prophet ﷺ.

◈ 6. “Allah Allah” as a Wazīfah — Its Status
◈ Repeating “Allah Allah” as a form of structured wazīfah:
✖ Is not found in the Qur’an
✖ Is not proven from the Prophet ﷺ
✖ Has no complete or clear meaning as a phrase
✔ Unlike phrases such as:
“Astaghfirullāh” – “I seek forgiveness from Allah”
“Allāhu Akbar” – “Allah is the Greatest”
“Al-ḥamdu lillāh” – “All praise is due to Allah”

◈ 7. Innovation and Deprivation from Sunnah
◈ Replacing prophetic adhkār with unproven chants like “Allah Allah” leads to:
➤ Neglect of Sunnah-based adhkār
➤ Spiritual imbalance
➤ A form of bidʿah (innovation)

◈ 8. Final Sharʿī Position
✔ “Allah Allah” as a repetitive chant is:
✖ Not proven in Qur’an or authentic Sunnah
✖ Not practiced by the Salaf al-Ṣāliḥīn
✔ Must be avoided
