❖ Example of Disbelieving Wives: 5 Lessons from the Wives of Nuh and Lut (علیہما السلام)
The wives of Prophet Nuh and Prophet Lut (علیہما السلام) were disbelievers. How could Allah ﷻ permit His noble prophets to have disbelieving wives? Kindly explain.
This question may seem strange at first glance, and it could be worded as:
"والسؤال عنه بدعة"
i.e., asking such a question might be considered an innovation (bid‘ah).
However, in my view, if someone raises this question sincerely, there is no harm in seeking its clarification, because:
In the religion of Islam, not every ruling or event is accompanied by an explicit explanation of its wisdom.
And it is not obligatory for a person to comprehend the wisdom behind everything.
Allah alone knows the wisdom of His decisions in the best possible way.
In these incidents, there lies a profound lesson for the disbelievers.
If the wives of such great prophets rejected the true message of guidance, then their ultimate fate too is a severe warning.
This illustrates that:
❝Mere kinship or proximity to a prophet cannot save anyone from divine punishment.❞
True salvation lies in faith in the Messengers (ایمان بالرسل).
Merely being related to a prophet or having close ties will not benefit a person without faith.
There is divine wisdom and a powerful moral message in the fact that these two prophets had disbelieving wives.
It emphasizes that guidance is solely in the hands of Allah, and even the closest relationships cannot enforce faith.
These stories serve as a wake-up call and a source of reflection for the believers.
They teach us that:
✔ True success is tied to belief and righteousness—not lineage, blood ties, or social closeness to righteous people.
The presence of disbelieving wives in the lives of Prophets Nuh and Lut (علیہما السلام) is a divine test and a means of conveying a powerful lesson:
Faith is the only criterion for salvation, and no worldly relationship can substitute for it.
