◈ Introduction

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, Ammā baʿd!

The only acceptable religion in the sight of Allah ﷻ is the one based solely on the teachings of Allah and His Messenger ﷺ. Islam requires adherence to divine commandments and prophetic guidance. Anyone deviating from these essentials risks invalidating their faith or nullifying their deeds—especially in matters such as shirk (polytheism) or apostasy.

① Salvation Depends on Adherence to the Qur’an and Sunnah — Not Group Names

◈ A person or group—be they Barelvi, Ahl-e-Ḥadīth, or Deobandi—will be accepted by Allah only if they strictly adhere to the limits and commands set by Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
◈ If any sect develops beliefs or practices that violate these limits, it will not be accepted in the sight of Allah, regardless of its name or affiliation.

② Barelvi Beliefs and Some Observed Practices

While many individuals in the Barelvi school profess Islam and the finality of Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, some among them engage in practices that are classified as acts of shirk under Sharīʿah, such as:

Seeking help from other than Allah (استمداد لغیر اللہ)
✔ These practices are accompanied by various interpretations and justifications which they consider legitimate.

✅ However, such interpretations do not automatically expel them from the fold of Islam, unless accompanied by clear, deliberate, and propagative commitment to major shirk.

③ Declaration of Takfīr and Its Boundaries

◈ Anyone who declares the Shahādah (testimony of faith) — i.e., believes in Tawḥīd and the Prophethood of Muḥammad ﷺ — is considered a member of the Muslim Ummah.
◈ Even if they commit serious errors or sinful innovations, they are not to be declared outside of Islam unless clear, undeniable evidence supports such exclusion.

④ Shirk and Its Implications for the Ummah

◈ While shirk is undoubtedly a major sin, and must be strongly refuted, the Sharīʿah requires extreme caution and scholarly responsibility before declaring any individual or group to be out of the Muslim fold.
◈ As long as a person does not knowingly insist upon and publicly promote clear-cut acts of shirk, he remains within the Ummah, though in need of serious correction.

⑤ Summary and Ruling

Only that religion is acceptable to Allah which aligns with His and His Messenger's teachings.
✔ Any group following those teachings is accepted, regardless of its name.
✔ A person who testifies to faith, even if involved in questionable acts, is not excluded from the Muslim Ummah without indisputable evidence.
✔ The Barelvi sect, despite having certain problematic beliefs and actions, is not to be considered outside the fold of Islam as a whole.
✔ These issues warrant serious scholarly engagement and reform, but not blanket takfīr.
