Chapter: Islam and Its Virtues

Allah ﷻ said:

“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as your religion.”

📖 [Surah Al-Mā'idah: 3]

Allah ﷻ also said:

“Do they seek other than the religion of Allah, while to Him have submitted all those in the heavens and the earth, willingly or unwillingly, and to Him they will be returned?”

📖 [Surah Āl-ʿImrān: 83]

✿ Hadith 1 – Definition of Islam, Iman, and Ihsan

Narrated by Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Ask me anything.”
But due to awe, the companions hesitated. Then a man came and sat near his knees and said:
“O Messenger of Allah! What is Islam?”
He ﷺ replied:
“That you associate none with Allah, establish prayer, pay zakat, and fast in Ramadan.”
He said: “You spoke the truth.”
Then he asked: “What is Iman (faith)?”
He ﷺ replied:
“That you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His meeting, His messengers, the Resurrection, and the divine decree – all of it.”
He said: “You spoke the truth.”
Then he asked: “What is Ihsan (excellence)?”
He ﷺ replied:
“That you worship Allah as if you see Him; for if you do not see Him, He surely sees you.”
He said: “You spoke the truth.”
He then asked: “When will the Hour be established?”
The Prophet ﷺ replied:
“The one questioned knows no more than the questioner. But I will tell you its signs:
– When a slave-girl gives birth to her master,
– When you see the barefooted, naked, deaf, and dumb becoming the kings of the earth,
– When you see the shepherds competing in constructing tall buildings.
The Hour is among five things known only to Allah.”
Then he recited:
﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ عِندَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ...﴾
“Verily, with Allah alone is the knowledge of the Hour…”

📖 [Surah Luqmān: 34]

After the man left, the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Bring him back.”
But they could not find him. He ﷺ then said:
“That was Jibreel (Gabriel), he came to teach you your religion.”

② One who seeks to revive the traditions of the time of ignorance (Jāhiliyyah) in Islam,
③ One who seeks to shed someone’s blood without right.”
