❖ Who Are the "Tawhidi Group"?

The Tawhidi Group refers to a faction that emerged from within former Ahl-e-Hadith and Jamaʿat al-Muslimeen members. It is associated with the teachings of Ayub Tawhidi, a man from Sadho-ki (near Gujranwala).

Key figures like Dr. Shujaʿullah from Sodiwal, Lahore, were also linked with the group before internal divisions arose.

The group takes its name from Ayub Tawhidi, who separated himself and established his own ideological direction.

❖ 4 Major Differences Between the Tawhidi Group and Ahl-e-Hadith

➊ Excessive Emphasis on Barā’ah from Ṭāghūt (Disavowal of False Authority)

◈ The Tawhidi group stresses extreme barā’ah (disassociation) from all forms of Ṭāghūt (false deities or unjust authorities).
◈ Their tone is rigid and aggressive, often labeling anyone outside their understanding of Tawḥīd as misguided.

Takfīr of Prominent Scholars

◈ They declare certain renowned Muslim scholars as disbelievers, including Shah Waliullah رحمه الله.
◈ They base this on selective readings of his writings which they claim contain problematic beliefs.
◈ In contrast, Ahl-e-Hadith do not declare such scholars as kāfir, even if they differ with their views.

➌ Condemnation of Qur’anic Amulets (Taʿwīdh)

◈ The group considers even Qur’anic taʿwīdh (amulets) as acts of shirk (polytheism).
◈ However, the Ahl-e-Hadith position is more nuanced:

  • They allow Qur’anic or duʿā-based amulets, provided they do not violate tawḥīd or cause dependency.

➍ Tendency Toward Harshness and Extremism

◈ While Ahl-e-Hadith scholars may differ in methodology, the Tawhidi group is known for:

  • Harsh declarations
  • Rough daʿwah tactics
  • Sometimes leaning toward violent rhetoric or exclusionism

✿ Summary

✔ The Tawhidi group is an offshoot movement, originally connected to Ahl-e-Hadith and Jamaʿat al-Muslimeen.
✔ They are now distinct due to ideological divergence.
✔ Key points of difference include:

  • Barā’ah from Ṭāghūt
  • Takfīr of scholars
  • Condemnation of Qur’anic taʿwīdh
  • Adoption of extreme and militant tones

These differences make the Tawhidi group ideologically separate from mainstream Ahl-e-Hadith scholarship.
