Al-ḥamdu lillāh, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. To proceed:
The evidences regarding reciting Sūrat al-Fātiḥah behind the Imam fall into two categories:
➊ General Evidences
➋ Specific Evidences
Below are the strongest proofs from both types:
Narrated by Imam al-Bukhārī and others (Hadith no. 756):
"لَا صَلَاةَ لِمَنْ لَمْ يَقْرَأْ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ"
"There is no prayer for the one who does not recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah."
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī: 756)
✔ This ḥadīth applies to:
◈ The Imam
◈ The follower (muqtadī)
◈ The individual praying alone (munfarid)
This has been affirmed by Imam al-Bukhārī himself and many other ḥadīth scholars.
Sayyidunā ‘Ubādah ibn al-Ṣāmit used to recite Sūrat al-Fātiḥah behind the Imam himself.

Maulānā Sarfarāz Khān Ṣafdar (Deobandi scholar) writes:
"It is entirely correct that Ḥaḍrat ‘Ubādah (رضي الله عنه) believed in reciting Sūrat al-Fātiḥah behind the Imam, and this was his well-researched position and chosen view."
(Aḥsan al-Kalām, Vol. 2, p. 142, 2nd edition)
This position of Sayyidunā ‘Ubādah is:
✔ Not contradictory to the Qur’an
✔ In full agreement with authentic Sunnah
✔ Backed by the majority of the Companions (رضي الله عنهم)

Among specific narrations, one powerful and authentic report is transmitted through the following chain:
‘Ubaydullāh ibn ‘Amr al-Raqqī → Ayyūb al-Sakhtiyānī → Abū Qilābah → Anas (رضي الله عنه)
Sources:
Imām al-Bayhaqī said:
"احتجّ به البخاري"
→ “Imām al-Bukhārī used this narration as a binding evidence.”
Kitāb al-Qirā’ah, p. 72
al-Kawākib al-Durriyyah (pp. 19–25; 2nd edition: 40–47)
Shahādat, May 2000 edition
These evidences clearly establish that reciting Sūrat al-Fātiḥah behind the Imam is obligatory and necessary. This practice:
✔ Does not conflict with the Qur’an
✔ Is fully supported by authentic Sunnah
✔ Conforms with the view of the majority of the Companions
