Which are the Qur’ānic verses that nullify magic?
❶ Sūrat al-Fātiḥah (1:1-7)
Translation:
“All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. The Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Master of the Day of Recompense. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path. The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have incurred [Your] wrath, nor of those who are astray.”
❷ Āyat al-Kursī (al-Baqarah: 255)
Translation:
“Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursī extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”
❸ Story of the Magicians of Pharaoh (al-Aʿrāf: 113-122)
Translation (summary):
The magicians came before Pharaoh and demanded a reward if they were victorious. Pharaoh promised them closeness to him. They challenged Mūsā (ʿalayhi al-salām), who instructed them to cast down first. They bewitched the people’s eyes and terrified them with mighty magic. Allah inspired Mūsā to throw his staff, which swallowed their false creations. Thus, truth prevailed, and falsehood was nullified. The magicians were overcome, humiliated, and fell into prostration declaring belief in the Lord of the worlds – the Lord of Mūsā and Hārūn.
❹ Mūsā (ʿalayhi al-salām) and the Sorcerers (Yūnus: 77-82)
Translation (summary):
Mūsā said: “Do you call truth magic when it has come to you? Magicians never succeed.” Pharaoh brought skilled magicians who cast their spells. Mūsā declared: “What you brought is sorcery, indeed Allah will nullify it. Surely Allah does not set right the work of the corrupters. And Allah establishes the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it.”
❺ Pharaoh and the Day of Confrontation (Ṭāhā: 56-72)
Translation (summary):
Allah showed Pharaoh all signs, but he denied them. Pharaoh accused Mūsā of sorcery and fixed a contest on the day of festival. The magicians cast their ropes and staffs, which appeared to move like serpents due to their magic. Mūsā felt fear, but Allah reassured him: “Do not fear, you are superior.” He cast down what was in his right hand, and it devoured what they had faked. Falsehood was exposed, and the magicians fell in prostration, declaring belief in the Lord of Hārūn and Mūsā.
❻ Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ (112:1-4)
Translation:
“Say: He is Allah, the One. Allah, the Self-Sufficient. He neither begets nor is born. And there is none comparable to Him.”
❼ Sūrat al-Falaq (113:1-5)
Translation:
“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak, from the evil of what He created, from the evil of darkness when it settles, from the evil of the blowers in knots, and from the evil of an envier when he envies.”
❽ Sūrat al-Nās (114:1-6)
Translation:
“Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind, the Sovereign of mankind, the God of mankind, from the evil of the retreating whisperer, who whispers in the breasts of mankind, from among the jinn and mankind.”
These Āyāt of Siḥr-shikanī (verses of nullifying sorcery) are recited as a Qur’ānic prescription against magic.
