Surah Al-Jinn (72) — Ayah 13

وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ ءَامَنَّا بِهِۦ ۖ فَمَن يُؤْمِنۢ بِرَبِّهِۦ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلَا رَهَقًا ﴿13﴾
‘And indeed when we heard the Guidance (this Qur’ân), we believed therein (Islâmic Monotheism), and whosoever believes in his Lord shall have no fear, either of a decrease in the reward of his good deeds or an increase in the punishment for his sins.
وَأَنَّا wa-annā And that [we]
لَمَّا lammā when
سَمِعْنَا samiʿ'nā we heard
ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ l-hudā the Guidance
ءَامَنَّا āmannā we believed
بِهِۦ ۖ bihi in it
فَمَن faman And whoever
يُؤْمِنۢ yu'min believes
بِرَبِّهِۦ birabbihi in his Lord
فَلَا falā then not
يَخَافُ yakhāfu he will fear
بَخْسًۭا bakhsan any loss
وَلَا walā and not
رَهَقًۭا rahaqan any burden

13. And that: When we heard the message of guidance [10], we believed in it. Now, whoever believes in his Lord will have no fear of injustice [11] nor of being wronged.

[10] That is, after hearing the Quran, it was no longer possible for us to persist in our false beliefs. Therefore, we were the first among our people to hasten to faith.
[11] All these are the important points that the jinn derived after listening to the Quran from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then, after believing, they went to their people and informed them of these points. Among them is this point related to the law of reward and punishment. By “injustice” is meant that one is given less reward than he deserves, and by “being wronged” is meant that he is given no reward for his good deeds, or someone is punished without any fault, or the fault is minor but the punishment is excessive. For any believer, there will be no such situation with Allah.
