Tafsir Taiseer ul-Quran (Facilitation of the Quran) is a comprehensive Quran commentary by Maulana Abdul Rahman Kilani, a renowned Salafi (Ahl al-Hadith) scholar from Pakistan. Known for his eloquent and accessible writing style, Kilani authored this tafsir with a focus on clarity — making Quranic meanings understandable to the common reader. The tafsir provides detailed historical context for verses related to battles and expeditions, and firmly refutes modernist ideologies using strong scriptural evidence. It is widely regarded as an invaluable resource for understanding the Quran and countering deviant interpretations. The tafsir is originally written in Urdu, translated to English by tohed.com.

77. Until We opened upon them a severe punishment [77], then at that moment they fell into utter despair [78].

[77] By severe punishment is meant that which the disbelievers suffered at the hands of the Muslims, and which began with the Battle of Badr.

[78]
The Meaning of "Balis": Resorting to Revenge Due to Despair:

The word ﴿مُبْلِسُوْنَ﴾ has appeared, and "Balis" means to become extremely hopeless due to grief, or to become sorrowful due to intense despair, and then, on the basis of that despair, to become enraged or to flare up. There is a verse by Sa'di:

Nabini keh chun gar beh 'ajiz shavad
Bar azar be changal chashm-e palang

Translation:

Do you not see that when a cat becomes helpless before a leopard and becomes certain of its death, it attacks the leopard and claws out its eye? That is, the state of these disbelievers is such that as they continue to be struck and see the possibility of their success fading away, instead of choosing the right path, they become even more enraged. They gather other nations and other polytheist tribes with them and, collectively attacking the Muslims, try to wipe them off the face of the earth.
